Third Coast Percussion has been saluted by the Washington Post for its virtuosity and precisely timed wit, and was called by the New York Times a commandingly elegant ensemble. The group, which is ensemble-in-residence at the University of Notre Dame, teaches and performs a concert series in Chicago, and has commissioned dozens of new works. This album is the ensembles Cedille label debut, and is an 80th birthday acknowledgement to American composer Steve Reich, the founding father of musical minimalism. This recording features four of Reichs most notable percussion works.

Don’t Look Down is an accidental diary of having lived through the worst pandemic of the last hundred years. When I started writing this piece in February 2020, it would be inconceivable to imagine the world we live in now. The one thing that kept me sane during this period was clocking into work—that is, working on this piece. So looking back, it’s not at all surprising the piece would wind up reflecting both the strangeness and the instability of the world we live in.

Speed of Sound celebrates both the Centennial of the McIntire Department of Music at the University of Virginia (UVA) and the Bicentennial of the entire institution. I-Jen Fang, the Director of the UVA Percussion Ensemble, curated this album, showcasing UVA composers and performers. These include faculty, as well as alumni, graduate and undergraduate students, with all of the music created between 2014 and 2017.

Collection includes four studio albums by American indie rock band Margot & the Nuclear So and So's: The Dust of Retreat (2006); Not Animal (2008); Buzzard (2010); Rot Gut, Domestic (2012).

The pieces on this recording are performed on a wide variety of instruments. There is a piece for solo harp (Whirlwind), pieces for cello and harp; cello and accordian; two guitars; cello, harp, accordian and piano; through those including the entire ensemble of cello, harp, accordian, two guitars, piano, marimba, string bass, and percussion. Except as noted, the compositions were arranged or transcribed by Richard Amoroso to take advantage of the many instrumental colors available within the group.

Relying on percussive uses of voice, electronic and acoustic instruments, and various blocks, bells, drums and other surfaces, Treuting folds melody, movement and the plosive mechanics of speech into an ebbing and flowing sound environment that digs deep into the notion of what connects numbers to human nature, and vice-versa.

Béla Bartók's masterpiece trilogy that set the tone for music in the 20th century. Bartók is a composer who best fits Paavo Järvi's agile and dramatic musicality. This album, which contains three major pieces for orchestra composed by Bartok in the European era, is an album that Jarvi longed for recording. "Music for Strings, Percussion Instruments and Celesta", composed in 1936, is an unconventional organization that divides stringed parts into two groups and contrasts them with percussion instruments / Celesta. The overwhelming virtuosity of the NHK Symphony Orchestra has been demonstrated with unprecedented strength. Both are the first recordings for both Paavo Järvi and the Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra.
