Spanning two discs, 20 years, and 40 songs, Hip-O's Anthology is a definitive overview of Don Williams' hit-making peak, containing the cream of his chart-topping country smashes. It's neatly divided, with the first disc devoted to his '70s work, the second to his '80s, and if the first is a bit stronger, it's only because it's more interesting to hear an artist hit his stride than settling into a signature sound. Still, there are great moments throughout both discs, all offering definitive proof that Williams' laid-back, warm country-pop was as good as mainstream country-pop got – it was lush and accessible, but with real country roots, unlike many of his peers.

Don Williams (born Donald Ray Williams; May 27, 1939 – September 8, 2017) was an American country singer, songwriter, and 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He began his solo career in 1971, singing popular ballads and amassing 17 number one country hits. His straightforward yet smooth bass-baritone voice, soft tones, and imposing build earned him the nickname: "Gentle Giant" of country music.

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Don Williams, Vol. 1 is a decent but not really necessary compilation of Williams' recordings for MCA, featuring 12 of his biggest hits from the '70s and early '80s. The problem is, nearly all of the songs are included on 20 Greatest Hits, which offers a more thorough overview of Williams' career at a price that really isn't much more expensive than The Millennium Collection. The remastered sound is quite nice, but 20 Greatest Hits remains the Williams compilation to get.

A best of concept 2CD, combining a CD of sunny summer reggae and country hits with more romantic and smoochy late night ballads. Includes Judy's huge hit, Can't Be With You Tonight. Judy Boucher (born in St. Vincent in the Caribbean) is a reggae and R&B singer. Her first solo song "Dreaming of a Little Island" was a hit in the reggae charts in 1985, and she is best known for her international hit single "Can't Be With You Tonight", which reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1987.

Ilja Richter prasentier 40 Jahre Disco: Disco Ballads is a 2CD compilation released in 2011. While called "disco ballads", most of these songs aren't disco or by artists connected with disco but they are ballads. Almost. Sony Music Germany made this.

Featuring 16 #1 Country hits and thirty-five Top 10 hits from the "Gentle Giant" of Country. Tracks include "You're My Best Friend," "Love Me Over Again," "Good Ole Boys Like Me," "Heartbeat in the Darkness," "Lord, I Hope This Is a Good Day" and many more. In his heyday, fans went to Don Williams concerts like they went to church–quietly, reverently. They might approach this set, with its 16 No. 1 hits, with similar devotion. The skeletal, small-band country-folk sound frames his guileless baritone so delicately that one could make a case for Williams as one of the fathers of New Age music. But these singles, no matter how soft and simple, refuse to recede into the background. That's partly because of the sing-along melodies, but mostly because he conveys these lyrics–which could be artsy ("Good Ole Boys Like Me") or brazenly direct even by Nashville standards ("You're My Best Friend")–with irresistible warmth, intimacy, and empathy. Forty songs may add up to more time than you care to spend in church in one sitting, but if you have this, you'll never need another Williams CD. –John Morthland
