Songbook

Probably copied around 1200, this songbook was discarded within a generation or so and used as flyleaves for another book. It was poorly written, decayed and damp, marred by stains and the ravages of time, but because the pages were being used for another purpose, some unknown benefactor preserved this wealth of music and poetry. The songbook then remained hidden for some six hundred years.

On "The Family Songbook" Tamar Halperin and Andreas Scholl combine the sounds of the Middle East with classic children's songs from the West, harpsichord with country-music sounds and sing-along songs with lullabies. This is a family album for the entire family.

Elvis Costello’s idea for the original series of concerts was a clever and entertaining one. A giant spinning wheel with song titles on it would determine each night’s set-list. A member of the audience is chosen to spin the wheel each time, guaranteeing a different mix of songs each night. Revived for shows across America last year, the concept still has a magic and unique charm. The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook was recorded over a 2-night stand at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles in May 2011 on a tour that received critical acclaim across the States.
