ames Victor Scott (July 17, 1925 – June 12, 2014), known professionally as Little Jimmy Scott or Jimmy Scott, was an American jazz vocalist known for his high natural contralto voice and his sensitivity on ballads and love songs.

Native Philadelphian Jerry Ross’ name can be found on the labels of many of the city’s most significant singles and albums. He may not be as well-known as contemporaries such as Dick Clark, Chubby Checker or Gamble & Huff, but Jerry’s career has been equally important to the evolution of the Philly music scene. This month Ace is delighted to spotlight his classic compositions with the latest entry in our popular Songwriter series. Jerry’s most frequent co-writer was the young Kenny Gamble. It was Jerry who suggested that he and Gamble write something with another upcoming Philly musician, Leon Huff.

The Sunshine Company's very name summons the spirit of the mini-genre of 1960s pop-rock that, long after its heyday, was named sunshine pop. So does their music, with the requisite exquisite multi-part male-female harmonies, buoyant optimism, and luxuriant late-1960s L.A. studio production. Look a little under the surface, though, and you find tinges of eccentric melancholy that set them apart from many of the frothy Mamas and the Papas-like groups of the period. Just as their music was more multi-dimensional than you might be led to believe by their trio of Top 100 hits, so was their story more complex than many would imagine. Could there have been any other band whose brief career whisked them through the orbits of the Carpenters, the Fifth Dimension, Jackson Browne, the Jefferson Airplane, Mary McCaslin, and John Davidson, ending at the even unlikelier destination of a pre-stardom Gregg Allman?

During this two-decade association with Columbia Records, Andy Williams chalked up more hit singles and sold more albums than any other traditional pop crooner of the period. Boosted by the popularity of his Emmy-winning television series The Andy Williams Show, the personable singer bridged the classic American Songbook of standards and showtunes with the modern pop-rock songs of the 1960s and 1970s. His widespread popularity saw Williams become the host of the Golden Globe Awards in the 1960s followed by annual duties fronting the Grammy Awards in the 1970s. All of which begs the question: why haven't we seen (and heard) a rarities collection from this iconic vocalist? Now, for the first time ever, Andy's immense archive of Columbia recordings has been combed through to dig up a bounty of previously unreleased tracks from his peak 1962-1972 era, including covers of familiar tunes such as You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, 'This Guy's in Love with You, Homeward Bound, Too Young, and I Don't Know How to Love Her.
