"Innervisions" is the 16th studio album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973, on the Tamla label for Motown Records, a landmark recording of his "classic period". The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues: from drug abuse in "Too High", through inequality and systemic racism in "Living for the City", to love in the ballads "All in Love Is Fair" and "Golden Lady". The album's closer, "He's Misstra Know-It-All", is a scathing attack on then-US President Richard Nixon, similar to Wonder's song a year later, "You Haven't Done Nothin'".

Hunger is a sparkling black-and-white film written and directed by Denmark's Henning Carlsen ("The Wolf at the Door") that's based on the acclaimed first novel by Knut Hamsun. It's an uncompromising story about a starving, foolish and proud young writer named Pontus (Per Oscarsson) living in Christiana, Norway, in 1890. The depressing grey atmospheric locations reflect the squalor and coldness of the people the struggling artist had to face. Oscarsson, for his marvelously effective heartbreaking and complex performance, won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

This collection is a pair of D-Train's earliest efforts, 1983's "Music" and the following year's "Something's on Your Mind"; for better or for worse, their sound is completely a product of its era, and while some listeners will find the disc thoroughly dated, others will enjoy its nostalgic charms.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's controversial, fifteen-hour-plus Berlin Alexanderplatz, based on Alfred Döblin's great modernist novel, was the crowning achievement of a prolific director who, at age thirty-four, had already made forty films. Fassbinder’s immersive epic, restored in 2006 and now available on DVD in this country for the first time, follows the hulking, childlike ex-convict Franz Biberkopf (Günter Lamprecht) as he attempts to "become an honest soul" amid the corrosive urban landscape of Weimar-era Germany. With equal parts cynicism and humanity, Fassbinder details a mammoth portrait of a common man struggling to survive in a viciously uncommon time.

Singer/songwriter Jesse Malin was the face of the glam/hard rock band D Generation for eight years, following the dissolution of Heart Attack, the hardcore punk act he fronted as a teenager in the '80s. They weren't a metal band, but critics quickly dismissed D Generation as Johnny Thunders copycats. As one of New York City's more talented acts of the 1990s, the band released three albums before disbanding in April 1999. Malin, who's a punk with a soft heart, didn't stop writing music. His love for Neil Young, Tom Waits, and Steve Earle affected his work; he spent the next two years working on a fresh, countrified sound…
