Soul Station

KISS co-founder & frontman, best-selling author and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer PAUL STANLEY has spent the last few years developing a project close to his heart.

"Soul Station" is Hank Mobley’s timeless masterpiece. Mobley was one of Blue Note’s definitive hard-bop artists and one of music’s leading tenor saxophonists. This 1960 set features the stellar quartet comprised of Mobley, Art Blakey, Wynton Kelly and Paul Chambers. The musicians are at the height of their powers, delivering sheer perfection. This flawless outing features the classic tunes: “This I Dig of You”, “Split Feelin’s”, “Remember” and “If I Should Lose You”. This is an absolutely essential album for any music lover’s collection.

Tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley had already led nine dates for Blue Note Records by the time he arrived at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio on February 7, 1960 with pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Art Blakey, but on that day the quartet laid down what would become his masterpiece: Soul Station.

One of the most influential and underground Hammond organists of the 1960's was "Big" John Patton as he was then known. If it was the groove that you wanted Patton was your Man and he made several albums for the legendary Blue Note label, many of which went on to sell for eye watering prices. As his style went out of favor, some of the recordings never saw the light of day until almost 20 years later and at the same time Patton slipped into the background.

Men Without Women, credited to Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul, is the debut solo album by Steven Van Zandt, a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and a songwriter / producer with the Jersey Shore band Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes.

b. Eddy Conrad, 1959, Gary, Indiana, USA. Conrad grew up in Indiana obsessed by the sound of Isaac Hayes’ ‘Theme From Shaft’. The first record he ever purchased, Conrad would spend his pocket money continually attending reruns of the film at local cinemas. ‘As a kid you always have heroes but with John Shaft [the film’s protagonist] it was serious. He had that certain macho feeling that every kid wishes he had too.’ In 1985 he fulfilled a long-held ambition by re-recording the track, which became a number 13 UK chart hit. It might well have charted higher had another version of ‘Theme From Shaft’ by Van Twist not been released at the same time. Afterwards, however, Conrad and his band disappeared from view completely.

Station to Station is the 10th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 23 January 1976 by RCA Records.

Born in 1972, Max Ionata is considered one of the major Italian saxophonist on the contemporary scene. Throughout just a few years, he’s been appreciated by critics and audience, succesfully working in Italy and abroad. Having published more than 70 disks with national and international artists, he’s very much appreciated abroad, especially in Japan.
