The remarkable train of events set in motion by a catchy Seventies disco hit took even its composer by surprise. But a major part of the success was due to his own imagination, enthusiasm and perseverance. Didier, the composer and keyboard player who formed his group Space in 1977, was surprised when an experimental demo recording evolved into an international chart topper. He had grown up in a showbiz family, but even he wasn’t prepared for the dramatic events that followed in the wake of overnight stardom.
But it was a strange kind of celebrity, because the composer was hidden underneath a space helmet when the first promotional video was made and Space was really a studio concept rather than a touring band. Nevertheless, "Magic Fly" gave birth to the French synthesizer disco boom…
A small committee formed by founding father Robert Fripp of King Crimson, ProjeKct Two lies somewhere between the guitarist-in-chief's rich solo riffwork and the rawkin' yet dead-tight group efforts of his infamously pretentious prog rock ensemble…
Despite being renowned in certain parts of the world (especially in Italy and their hometown of Paris), the space-age outfit Rockets remains largely obscure – even though they arrived on the scene at almost he same exact time as Kraftwerk and prefaced Devo by several years. The multi-membered outfit originally formed in 1972, under the name Crystal, performing on-stage in their regular street clothes. But by 1974, Crystal had evolved into Rocket Men, issuing a debut self-titled single, while its members began to assume the identities of aliens; complete with silver makeup covering their skin, grey contact lenses, space suits, and bald heads. It was also around this time that the group hooked up with producer Claude Lemoine, who would remain behind the studio boards until the early '80s. Over the next year, the group went through another name (Rocketters), before finally settling on Rockets, and issuing further singles, including such titles as "Rocket Man," "Future Woman," and "Samurai."
Founded by Scott Heller aka Dr. Space (synth, management) in 2004 Øresund Space Collective are a multinational crew which get together as often as possible to play free form improvised space rock music. The band name derives from the Øresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden since the year 2000. The purpose is to offer another flavour with every new session. This is guaranteed by everlasting line-up changes. The whole OSC family comprises more than 30 members in the meanwhile, temporarily entrusted by nearly every existing Nordic psych/space band. They have toured all over in Europe whilst collaborating with Sula Bassana and others. The musical trademark is provided by a grooving backbone in general. This is decorated by playful multiple guitars and a proper proportion of synthesizer and organ input…
