Olga Pasichnyk - soprano, Mara Galassi - harp, Musica Petropolitana

From the time of the reign of the empress Elizabeth Petrovna a different way of life began to establish itself in Russia, and a different kind of woman, not only aristocratic through birth but also because she belonged to a creative élite: a woman at one and the same time musician, poetess and composer of ballads, who sang and played several instruments […] These 'new' aristocrats adopted European manners, combining them with typically Russian tradition. KeepMoving Records presents the premiere release of The Demons of St. Petersburg by the legendary Ennio Morricone. Directed by Giuliano Montaldo (Sacco e Vanzetti, Giordano Bruno, Marco Polo), the film tells the fictionalized life story of Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Miki Manojlovic) who is caught up with political intrigue and a career crisis resulting from his crippling gambling debts. While trying to finish his latest novel on schedule and reveal an anarchist plot targeting the Tsar, the troubled author must fight his inner demons to move forward in life… The Demons of St. Petersburg marks the latest collaboration between Montaldo and Morricone who had scored the majority of the director's films. The key thematic material includes the propulsive anarchist theme for the assassination plot and a darkly passionate love theme for a string quartet and harp which underscores Dostoyevsky's troubled relationship with his stenographist, Anna.

The Other St Petersburg

John Nickolson The Other St Petersburg
St Petersburg | 1994 | ISBN: 5881430107 | 102 pages | PDF | 26,3 MB

An alternative guide to St Petersburg. Who are the real Petersburgers? What is portwine? Why is it important to be kind? Are Petersburgers just very inept? Why could you never mistake a Petersburger for a Muscovite?
The Other St Petersburg asks the questions other guidebooks are afraid to ask and comes up with the answers no one else has yet dared to publish.
The Other St Petersburg contains - amongst much else - translations of short stories by Daniil Kharms (The Old Woman, 1939) and Yevgeny Zvyagin (Shades of the Hermitage, 1983), and absolutely no mention of the Kirovsky Ballet, matryoshki, Peter the Great or what to do when your baggage gets rerouted via Melbourne.

This is a double-anniversary disc, offering a rare collection of lively works to celebrate the ninetieth anniversary of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra as well as the eightieth birthday of its principal conductor, Neeme Järvi. Cheerful marches and dances here trace the career of Johann Strauss II as it manifested itself in his much acclaimed seasons in St Petersburg, at the Russian summer concerts in the Vauxhall pavilion in Pavlovsk, where he appeared for eleven seasons (1856 65 and 1869), ten of them consecutively. It is an unmissable start to a year-long celebration for Neeme Järvi that will include concerts, promotions, and other CD releases.
