DJ-Kicks trips back and forth between beat-heavy cinematic music from the '70s, rap from the old-school to the new-skool, and trip-hop from producers who, just like Stereo MC's themselves, take the template of breakbeat music down new paths. Truth to tell, though, there'd been so many similar mix albums released in the previous few years that it wasn't difficult to believe the bottomless well of obscure, funky music was just about tapped. Back by very popular demand, Stereo MCs Vaultage Vol 2 sees Rob and Nick unload what can be termed as a pure samplist's "Dream Crate" with a fresh collection of sonic inspiration, that has been 20 years in the making, covering diverse styles and genres such as Hip Hop, Techno, Breaks, Dance, Electronic, Funk and more which blend together in such a way that only the Stereo MC's could pull off.

Loopmasters are hugely proud to present "Vaultage" from the Stereo Mc's - possibly the earliest true Dance Music export from the UK, and a band that have been hugely inspirational to a wide variety of artists worldwide, from the Jungle Brothers through to Madonna. Now you can explore the vaults of one of the most experimental electronic music acts, and for the first time have full access to some of the most precious and creative sample collections available worldwide - from the sketches from the early years of their hugely successful 20 year career, all the way up to outtakes from sessions from their new album, Emperor's Nightingale.

The real MC's can be heard on Supernatural where a mix of highs are prescribed. From the moving dub of Declaration to the jumped up funk of Lost in Music, MC Rob and the Head, without DJ Caesere (who had provided so much of their 1st album's euro-lick punch) exhilerate you with the sheer eclecticism of their music.

Well over a decade passed since they took the U.S. charts by storm with their infectious single "Elevate My Mind." Since then, much has passed underneath the radar of the dance community when it comes to Stereo MC's. Through the 18 tracks here, the finest moments of their career unravel. And while this may have been compiled with those uninitiated to their other songs in mind, this is also a very nice compilation to have for the dedicated fan who has followed the group religiously. Their two biggest hits ("Connected" and "Elevate My Mind") stand firmly as the crown jewels of the release, but this is definitely not a detractor from the other quality numbers on Retroactive. It's a solid guidebook to a band both ahead of its time and sorely overlooked.

Connected is the third release from the Stereo MC's, a London trio of remixers who ferment their unique blend of rap, R&B and dance music with a healthy blend of European techno, dub and cool jazz, putting them in the vanguard of the music's new wave along with such irrefutably hip hoppers as Digable Planets.
