This CD is very special, because this is my first duo CD. It gives me the chance to record a few of my favourite songs in a small formation. We used only one guest musician per song. We tried to make our version of these songs as simple as possible. 'So that the pure sound of the guitar and voices might stand out. That you might drift into the story and feel the mood of the moment. Most of the songs on this CD are recorded for easy listening. We chose mostly slower songs and we tried to give them all a little touch of Blues.–by Big Daddy Wilson
From the opening vocals of the almost rockabilly "Club Manhattan," the undeniably excellent songwriting of Jesse Winchester makes its way back into our collective psyche. Backed by an unparalleled group of musicians, and with guest appearances from such musical dignitaries as the Fairfield Four, Jerry Douglas, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper, and Vince Gill, Winchester has assembled a highly enjoyable album, filled with the same magic his past releases all possessed. The kind of musical and lyrical genius that has caused dozens of artists to record his music gets into some funky blues territory with "Sweet Little Shoe," and downright beautiful with "That's What Makes You Strong," featuring the lap steel guitar work of Jerry Douglas, who also acts as producer for the album.
Let's just say that the songwriting of this venerable Chicago singer-guitarist - papa to the young guns who lead the Kinsey Report band - doesn't measure up to his intentions. Despite its title, this 1993 effort is a tribute to Kinsey's role model Muddy Waters. And luckily most of the tunes are classics from Waters ("Mannish Boy," "Got My Mojo Workin'," "Walking Through the Park"), Sonny Boy Williamson ("Nine Below Zero"), and others. The expert support includes Buddy Guy and Big Daddy's son Donald on guitar; harpmen James Cotton, Sugar Blue, and Billy Branch; piano legend Pinetop Perkins; and Lucky Peterson on organ. So the playing is every bit as Delta-authentic as Kinsey himself, whose deep Mississippi-accented voice is a glorious time machine that transports us back to the era of the Saturday night fish fry.

I love to play ‘Old School’, ‘Coupe De Ville’ and ‘Run Free’, as they get the crowd going.
