In the dense forests of Central America, Superman makes an incredible discovery: a spacecraft of unknown origin, which could point humanity toward new technological advances—or spell its doom. As the Man of Steel realizes the ship is somehow draining his powers, a terrorist organization arrives to use the ship for their own nefarious plans. As Superman struggles to focus his waning power, the ship’s predatory owner returns…
When the insane sentient computer, Skynet, sends Terminators to present-day Metropolis to hunt John Connor, it didn’t plan on the Man of Steel coming to the rescue…or did it? As the battle to save mankind rages in the Metropolis of the present and the future, will the combined might of Superman, Supergirl, Superboy and Steel be enough to stop the deadly killing machines—and their new ally, the Cyborg Superman—from terminating John Connor? When magic-wielding Nazis known as the Knights of October kidnap the original Starman, Ted Knight and Batman must begrudgingly accept the help of Hellboy to track down the kidnappers. The mysterious plot thickens and leads to the jungles of South America, where Jack Knight, the current Starman, joins the investigation to rescue his father. Can these three heroes stop the metaphysical scheme the Knights of October are concocting? The daughter of a prominent Gotham politician is missing after a mysterious explosion, and her friend Barbara Gordon and Batgirl follow a lead to Arcadia to find out what’s really going on. Meanwhile, the psychotic Two-Face discovers that some of his dead Gotham City henchmen have been reanimated and recruited into the service of Arcadia’s crime lord, Malcolm Greymater. Arcadia’s vigilante heroine, Ghost, soon finds her sordid little city in the center of an all-out gang war between Two-Face and Greymater—and if she wants this war to stop, she’ll need the help of Oracle and Batgirl to get the job done!

Les Daniels | Chronicle Books LLC | CBR | ISBN 0811842312 | First Paperback Ed | June 2004 | 192 Pages | 132.22 MB

While comic books trace their origins to the late 19th century, Superman, who debuted in 1938's , is virtually synonymous with the medium. Yet, as Superman: the Complete History shows, the Man of Steel has also made a lasting impact in comic strips, film, toys, TV, radio, and even on Broadway. In this beautifully composed volume, Les Daniels collects rare and never-before-seen early artwork by Superman's teenage creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (including a two-page doodle from 1936 featuring early Superman costume designs), and he chronicles the evolution of the character from an orphan alien comics hero to a complex multimedia icon. Entire pages are devoted to photographs of the various costumes worn by TV and film incarnations, of numerous action figures and related toys, and of movie poster and stills. Several comics stories are also reproduced in their entirety. Almost as impressive as the stunning art design is Daniels's narrative: covering the 60 years from 1938 to 1998, he collects interviews with several writer-artist teams that detail the changes in the Man of Steel and his relationships with Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Lex Luthor, and Perry White. Daniels's examination of the "Death of Superman" story arc, in particular, is a fascinating study of Superman's commercial and archetypal appeal. The final pages preview Superman tales by Barry Windsor-Smith and Alex Ross (whose beautiful painted graphic novel Kingdom Come turned many heads). --

An unforgettable collection of WATCHMEN writer Alan Moore's definitive Superman tales that is sure to appeal of readers of his BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE graphic novel. Moore teams with Curt Swan, the definitive Superman artist from the 1950's through the 1970's, to tell the final adventure of the Man of Steel featuring his last stand against Lex Luthor, Brainiac and his other foes in "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE MAN OF TOMORROW?". This volume also includes Moore's classic early collaboration with WATCHMEN illustrator Dave Gibbons, "FOR THE MAN WHO HAS EVERYTHING", in which Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman find Superman held captive by the villain Mongul in the Fortress of Solitude and dreaming of an idyllic life on Krypton courtesy of a wish-fulfilling parasitic plant known as the Black Mercy. Both tales are considered two of the top five all-time best Superman stories among fans. The rare first team-up adventure between the Man of Tomorrow and Swamp Thing, the character that first brought Moore to notoriety in the United States, is included as an additional bonus. This volume collects the two-part "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" from SUPERMAN #423 and ACTION COMICS #583, as well as "The Jungle Line" from DC COMICS PRESENTS #85 and "For the Man Who Has Everything…" from SUPERMAN ANNUAL #11.
