Follows a trio of best friends known as "The Supremes" who, for decades, has weathered life's storms together through marriage and children, happiness and blues.

This foot-stomping six-part series - made by the BBC team who produced the critically-acclaimed "Lost Highway", "Walk on By" and "Dancing in the Streets" series - charts the evolution of soul music, with a fascinating combination of rare archive footage and over 100 contemporary interviews.

Chuck Berry opens the show and performs "Johnny B Goode" and his 1955 hit Maebelline". He is then joined by " Gerry and The Pacemakers" who do their updated British version of the song. and a medley of their hits. "Billy J Kramer and The Dakotas perform "Little Children " and "Bad To Me". Detroits' Motown is represented as "Diana Ross and The Supremes " sing "Baby Love" , by "Smokey Robinson and The Miracles" who sing "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" and by Marvin Gaye who sings " Hitchhike". NYCs Leslie Gore sings "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me",a million seller several years before "women's lib" The 'early surfer' hosts, Jan and Dean sing "The Little Old Lady From Passedena".

In 1965, some of Motown's brightest new stars, including The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandellas, and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, arrived in London for a tour that would change the face of British music history.

To mark the 50-year anniversary of Motown in 2009, a compilation of some of the iconic record label's greatest names filmed live in the BBC studios. Visitors from Hitsville USA over the years have included Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops and The Jackson 5
