Between 1994 and 1996, Edsel released eight full-length CDs of Marc Bolan's previously unreleased home demos, alternate takes, unused and abandoned songs, and unfinished recordings. These CDS were deleted in 2001. In late 2010, all eight discs were re-issued in a limited edition deluxe case bound book package. Unavailable since then, these intriguing recordings are now repackaged for a new legion of Bolan fans. The eight CDs collect 184 Marc Bolan and T. Rex performances, recorded during the 1970s. Some, in a near-finished state, failed to make the final cut. Many others, ranging from spur-of-the-moment home demos to alternate studio takes and jams, were simply abandoned. All were unreleased at the time of Bolan's death in 1977.

Tyrannosaurus Rex's transformation from oracles of U.K. hippie culture to boogie-friendly rock stars began with the album A Beard of Stars, released in early 1970 when the band picked up electric instruments, and by the time the year was out, Marc Bolan had pared their name down to the more user-friendly T. Rex and dropped their first album with the new moniker…

The album that essentially kick-started the U.K. glam rock craze, Electric Warrior completes T. Rex's transformation from hippie folk-rockers into flamboyant avatars of trashy rock & roll. There are a few vestiges of those early days remaining in the acoustic-driven ballads, but Electric Warrior spends most of its time in a swinging, hip-shaking groove powered by Marc Bolan's warm electric guitar…

By 1974, the phenomenon known as T. Rextacy was on the wane. The group had always been Bolan's vehicle, but the departure of some original members, the addition of three backup vocalists, and the name change, to Marc Bolan And T. Rex, signaled a significant new direction for the band.

Released in early 1975, BOLAN'S ZIP GUN appeared after T. Rex had been out of the limelight for a period of time. Rumors abounded about the supposed ill health of Marc Bolan, but beyond the rumors was the undeniable fact that T. Rex was no longer the sensation it had been in its early-'70s heyday. This two-disc 2002 edition is packaged in a digipak and plastic slipcase.Disc One includes 2 non-album single sides in addition to the original album. Disc two includes 19 "work in progress" versions and demos, which mirror the original album's running order.

By the mid-'70s, Marc Bolan's T. Rex had fallen on hard times. Bolan, who remained the essential element in the band, began experimenting with soul/funk sounds and collaborating with his wife, singer Gloria Jones, with mixed results. While 1976's FUTURISTIC DRAGON didn't hit the charts as hard as T. Rex's earlier classics ELECTRIC WARRIOR, SLIDER, and TANX had, it finds Bolan back on track. "New York City" turned out to be one of Bolan's final U.K. hits before his untimely death one year later. Other highlights include the orchestrated instrumental "Theme for a Dragon," and the upbeat power pop of "Chrome Sitar."
