In 1992 one more Compilation was released with well-known music from 'The Pink Years' and 'The Blue Years'. This compilation contains no new material; the music material on disc one is absolutely identical to the 1989 Compilation The Best Of Tangerine Dream.

Esoteric Recordings’ Reactive label is pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered 4 CD clamshell boxed set which gathers together the first four legendary albums by Tangerine Dream, originally released on the Jive Electro label between 1985 and 1987, known by fans as “The Blue Years” albums.

Tangerine Dream were one of the true pioneers of electronic and ambient music and the albums they recorded for Virgin Records between 1973 and 1979 remain classics of the genre. In Search of Hades: The Virgin Recordings 1973 - 1979 is the definitive statement of this period in Tangerine Dream's history, featuring newly remastered versions of the albums Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet, Stratosfear, Encore, Cyclone and Force Majeure all drawn from the original first-generation master tapes, and new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes of Phaedra and Ricochet by Steven Wilson…

Fans generally acknowledge the classic era of Tangerine Dream as coinciding with their Virgin years, which this collection rounds up nicely, opening with two landmarks, Phaedra and Rubycon, then including the group's broadening of scope and direction with the live Ricochet, Stratosfear, and Cyclone. This was directly after the early avant-garde years, consisting of experimental, arrhythmic work like Atem and Electronic Meditation, and before the Hollywood years, when Edgar Froese and co. began composing work for movie scores like Risky Business. Phaedra and Rubycon have not dated at all since their early-‘70s recording, despite Froese, Peter Baumann, and Chris Franke’s early adoption of Moog technology, along with Mellotron and other electric or electronic instruments. Along with the full LPs in their most recent remastering, the collection also rounds up single edits and 7” versions when they were originally available.

Featuring recordings made at Reims Cathedral, France in December 1974 and at the Mozarthalle, Mannheim, West Germany in October 1976, this 4 CD set has been compiled with the official approval of Tangerine Dream and features two concerts that were voted as some of the finest bootlegs in existence in a recent poll of fans. The concert at Reims Cathedral has gone down in Tangerine Dream history as a legendary event. The music performed by Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann was exemplary, although the circumstances surrounding the staging of the concert led to a ban on further performances in Cathedrals by The Vatican…

It’s end of October, the 28th, 2011, 8 pm - a night to remember for many fans - a lot of them already in funny Halloween costumes - who turned up at Moogfest especially for the Tangerine Dream performance at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC. American, Canadian as well as British TD fans have such a loyal connection to the energy of a TD concert that it is even for the band themselves always a breathtaking experience.
Now in their 44th year after the name Tangerine Dream appeared first time in public, one could assume that the musical energy has probably slowed down, but it is the opposite, a bundle of energetic rhythms, sounds and lead lines will accompany you through a night of a remarkable live experience…

The last TD production with Johannes Schmoelling was the soundtrack for Ridley Scott's movie Legend, starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, Tim Currie and David Bennent. Jerry Goldsmith was the original composer of the music for Legend, but Universal Studios decided they wanted a more modern sounding music and contracted with TD, Jon Anderson (singer of Yes) and Bryan Ferry (formerly with Roxy Music) to supply new music. The TD score was used for the North American version of the film only, thus the TD soundtrack was released 1986 in USA and Canada only. All other world-wide releases used the Goldsmith film score.

Tangerine Dream's 'Wavelength' is the soundtrack to an obscure Robert Carradine sci-fi film from 1983, and while it offered nothing truly fresh or groundbreaking from the band, it's still makes for a fine background listen while offering several variations of spacey/electronic ambience. Composed by the trio of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Johannes Schmoelling, considering the albums around it such as 'Hyperborea', 'White Eagle' etc, 'Wavelength' still features the ghostly Melloton, as well as having a distinct mid-70's TD period sound instead of the cold plastic 80's that was emerging during that time. It's mostly comprised of short little interludes and snippets which unfortunately means that many of the tracks rarely get time to develop better, and some sections are reworked pieces from previous albums…
