The music is an essential part of this production. Everyone remembers the thrill of hearing the main title theme composed by Brad Fiedel for the first time. The cult and timeless score to James Cameron’s The Terminator is finally available again. Milan Records has partnered with composer Brad Fiedel to bring back this amazing soundtrack the way Brad Fiedel always wanted the music to be presented to the public. This release of The Terminator has been mixed and mastered from the original tapes by Brad Fiedel himself in his studio. The score has been mastered for vinyl from the original tapes.

One underrated highlight of the classic 1984 science fiction film The Terminator was the marvelous synthesizer score by Brad Fiedel. The original release of the soundtrack included six compositions by Fiedel, who once served as a keyboardist for Hall & Oates briefly in the mid-'70s. "Theme from The Terminator" is a spectacular piece of haunting synthesizer music; each layer is perfectly effective, especially the deceptively simple melody line. "Tunnel Chase" is bombastically chilling, while "Love Scene" is a soft, mournful piano-based version of the main theme; its bittersweet feel corresponds nicely to the pivotal scene that it supports. Fiedel's synthesizer work on "Factory Chase" is full of glassy squeals and scary bursts, and Ross Levinson adds touches of electric violin. The Terminator was reissued on CD in 1991 by DCC Compact Classics. The 1995 Definitive Edition includes Fiedel's complete score in 18 tracks, remastered in state-of-the-art 1990s digital audio, which lends itself especially well to synthesizer music. The 73-minute running time doubles the length of the original soundtrack release, and includes as a bonus track the "Judgement Day Remix" of "Theme from The Terminator." There's also extensive annotation on each track, and the whole package comprises some of the best science fiction-oriented film music of recent decades.

The album follows the scores chronologically, opening with Brad Fiedel’s pre-MIDI age synth clash between human and machine In Terminator and Terminator 2. Fiedel’s score is followed by Marco Beltrami’s predominantly orchestral backdrop in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Danny Elfman’s Terminator: Salvation score pulls back from the orchestral sound and morphs into a sensual man-machine contrast. In Terminator: Genisys, Lorne Balfe picks the vintage synth sound of Terminator 2, whilst creating his own fantastical soundscaping. The score for Terminator: Dark Fate shows the respect Tom Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL) pays to Brad Fiedel and his iconic 1984 theme. Here, Holkenborg has updated Fiedel’s work, with writing for, and performing on synthesizers from the 2010s, and as such the statements of the theme in this score have a richer, almost organic electronic sound.

A composer, producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist who has charted internationally with both his electronic music and his film scores, the Netherlands' Tom Holkenborg is also known as Junkie XL. Though he began his career as musician/producer in bands such as Weekend at Waikiki and Nerve in the late '80s and early '90s, he made his name in big beat music with the Junkie XL moniker in the late '90s.

Paramount Music will release the official soundtrack album for the sci-fi action sequel Terminator: Dark Fate. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel, Black Mass). A CD version will be released by La-La Land Records. Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller, produced by James Cameron and stars Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta. The movie follows Sarah Connor and a hybrid cyborg human as they must protect a young girl from a newly modified liquid Terminator from the future. The Skydance Media production is being released in theaters nationwide this weekend.
