The Band was a Canadian-American roots rock group including Rick Danko (bass guitar, vocals, fiddle), Garth Hudson (keyboards, accordion, saxophone), Richard Manuel (keyboards, drums, vocals), Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals), and Levon Helm (drums, vocals, mandolin, guitar). Their time backing Bob Dylan was when they first reached prominence (as well as providing The Band their name), but they were originally formed as The Hawks, a backing band for rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins…

This three-album collection explores the jazz icon's broad range of interests: "Stan Meets Chet" (1958) is a wholly instrumental collaboration with Stan Getz; "Baby Breeze" (1965) features Chet's vocals and flugelhorn backed by a large ensemble; and "You Can't Go Home Again" (1977) is a fusion classic featuring Michael Brecker, John Scofield, Paul Desmond and some unforgettable performances by drummer Tony Williams.

Afro (1954). Pairing Dizzy Gillespie with Cuban arranger/composer Chico O'Farrill produced a stunning session which originally made up the first half of a Norgran LP. O'Farrill conducts an expanded orchestra which combines a jazz band with a Latin rhythm section; among the participants in the four-part "Manteca Suite" are trumpeters Quincy Jones and Ernie Royal, trombonist J.J. Johnson, tenor saxophonists Hank Mobley and Lucky Thompson, and conga player Mongo Santamaria. "Manteca," written during the previous decade, serves as an exciting opening movement, while the next two segments build upon this famous theme, though they are jointly credited to O'Farrill as well. A superb selection of material here from another jazz icon: 'Back to Back' (1959) is the famous collaboration between Ellington and alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges; 'Live at The Whitney' (Recorded 1972) is a rare piano-trio date recorded at New York's Whitney School Of American Art; and 'Soul Call' (1967) is a classic big-band album recorded live at the Antibes Jazz Festival, featuring barnstorming versions of 'Caravan' and 'Skin Deep'.

Featuring 12 mini-CDs that feature three tracks each for the most part (one has four). Each mini-CD comes in an individual case. The 12 A-sides featured include early classics such as "Seven Seas of Rhye," "Killer Queen," and "Somebody to Love," as well as mid-career hits "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Under Pressure," and latter-day favorites "Radio Ga Ga," "A Kind of Magic." Also included are the non-album B-sides "See What a Fool I've Been," "Soul Brother," "I Go Crazy," and "A Dozen Red Roses for My Darling" (others, such as "A Human Body," "Blurred Vision," and the single "Thank God It's Christmas," are not).
