Teus Nobel

April 16, 2021, trumpet player Teus Nobel will release Tanto Amor, a sequel to his 2019 album Saudade. Tanto Amor celebrates the repertoire of Brazilian singer / songwriter Ivan Lins, one of Brazil’s own musical and political heroes who turned 75 in 2020 and at the same time celebrated his 50th anniversary in the music industry. With the exception of “Song for Tim” (a co-composition with Roberto de Lujo) all songs on this recording are written by Ivan Lins himself. The arrangements for this project were made by musician, arranger and producer Roeland Jacobs.

On his new album After Hours (2023), Nobel emphasizes the so-called 'American jazz standards' for the first time. His inspiration for this was the 40th anniversary of the Chet Baker Trio's album My Prince Will Come (1983). The line-up of trumpet, guitar and double bass corresponds to the line-up on Chet Baker's album. This combination of instruments invites the tranquil and melancholic sounds that connoisseurs of Baker will recognize. But Nobel, Langedijk and Pol also make plenty of room for swinging jazz.

On "Pleasure Is The Measure", a live recording, Teus presents his vision on the arts & culture industry. In his opinion, the idea that 'culture should be for everyone' contains the risk that arts & culture makers will just create with public opinion in mind.

Young big band pays tribute to the legendary Skymasters: The Dutch big band tradition holds a special place in the history of jazz. The Skymasters, founded in 1945, captivated audiences with their swinging big band music and Dutch vocal repertoire through their popular radio broadcasts. Now, the Paradox Jazz Orchestra (PJO), a newly formed ensemble, pays homage to this illustrious era with their new album, “Remembering the Skymasters – Legacy.” Led by saxophonist and arranger Jasper Staps and trumpeter Teus Nobel, the PJO aims to revive and reintroduce the rich Dutch and international big band heritage to both existing and new generations of music lovers. In this blog post, we delve into the origins of the PJO, its unique concept, and its mission to keep big band music alive.
