A short and accessible course for text analysis

This book proposes a bank risk aggregation framework based on financial statements. Specifically, bank risk aggregation is of great importance to maintain stable operation of banking industry and prevent financial crisis. A major obstacle to bank risk management is the problem of data shortage, which makes many quantitative risk aggregation approaches typically fail. Recently, to overcome the problem of inaccurate total risk results caused by the shortage of risk data, some researchers have proposed a series of financial statements-based bank risk aggregation approaches.

Time-frequency analysis is a modern branch of harmonic analysis. It com­ prises all those parts of mathematics and its applications that use the struc­ ture of translations and modulations (or time-frequency shifts) for the anal­ ysis of functions and operators. Time-frequency analysis is a form of local Fourier analysis that treats time and frequency simultaneously and sym­ metrically. My goal is a systematic exposition of the foundations of time-frequency analysis, whence the title of the book.

This contributed volume features chapters based on talks given at the second international conference titled Aspects of Time-Frequency Analysis (ATFA 19), held at Politecnico di Torino from June 25th to June 27th, 2019. Written by experts in harmonic analysis and its applications, these chapters provide a valuable overview of the state-of-the-art of this active area of research. New results are collected as well, making this a valuable resource for readers seeking to be brought up-to-date.

This book discusses the Fourier transform (FT), which is one of the most valuable and widely used integral transforms that converts a signal from time versus amplitude to frequency versus amplitude. It is one of the oldest tools in the time-frequency analysis of signals. The book includes five chapters that discuss general Fourier transforms as well as new and novel transforms such as hybrid transforms, quadratic-phase Fourier transforms, fractional Fourier transforms, linear canonical transforms, and more.

This book presents the theory of adjoint sensitivity analysis for high frequency applications through time-domain electromagnetic simulations in MATLAB®. This theory enables the efficient estimation of the sensitivities of an arbitrary response with respect to all parameters in the considered problem.

The last fifteen years have produced major advances in the mathematical theory of wavelet transforms and their applications to science and engineering. In an effort to inform researchers in mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, and engineering and to stimulate furtherresearch, an NSF-CBMS Research Conference on Wavelet Analysis was organized at the University of Central Florida in May 1998. Many distinguished mathematicians and scientists from allover the world participated in the conference and provided a digest of recent developments, open questions, and unsolved problems in this rapidly growing and important field. As a follow-up project, this monograph was developed from manuscripts sub­ mitted by renowned mathematicians and scientists who have made important contributions to the subject of wavelets, wavelet transforms, and time-frequency signal analysis. This publication brings together current developments in the theory and applications of wavelet transforms and in the field of time-frequency signal analysis that are likely to determine fruitful directions for future advanced study and research.

This state-of-the-art textbook examines four research directions in harmonic analysis and features some of the latest applications in the field, including cosmic microwave background analysis, human cortex image denoising, and wireless communication. The work is the first one that combines spline theory (from a numerical or approximation-theoretical view), wavelets, frames, and time-frequency methods leading up to a construction of wavelets on manifolds other than Rn.
