Elliott James Murphy (born March 16, 1949) is an American rock singer-songwriter, novelist, Record producer and journalist living in Paris.

Elliott Murphy is one of those American artists fascinated by Europe (which, by the way, makes it good for them) who, authors of a poetic and musical work of very high quality, nevertheless fail to reproduce this same success at home, on the other side of the Atlantic. It is indeed forty years since this complete artist, musician and writer, in permanent activity, froths the streets, cabarets and concert halls by producing (sometimes himself) one record a year on average since his first album Aquashow in 1973, hailed as a classic. Settled in Paris since 1989, he sings and tells the human soul in a superb folk rock tinged with Blues Without Borders and without age.

This volume interrogates the assumption that Visigothic practices and institutions were mere imitations of the Byzantine empire.
