Toronto singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie's follow up to her acclaimed debut album; Spiral Road, is another powerful collection of deeply personal songs melding Americana, folk, rock, bluegrass, and traditional country.

This new recording once again features the multi-Grammy finalist’s composing – arranging, along with some of his solo work on vocals and trombone. But it is equally about the band and its many fine soloists who Pete has known and worked with for over 25 years. A collective resume of the band members includes stints with such well-known band leaders as Maria Schneider, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Jimmy Heath and countless other great big bands, Broadways shows and various NYC studio recording sessions. When they all get together, it is as much about “the hang” as it is about playing the music. Once the arrangements were written, McGuinness was indeed along for a great ride! He knew the many gifts of the band’s various soloists, and how they can pull off even the trickiest of passages with style and energy.

Arguably the greatest tragedy to befall the west coast of Scotland remains, to this day, largely unknown. On the event of the 100th anniversary, the people of Lewis tell their story to the rest of the nation through the words and testimonies of the islanders. On 1 January 1919, having survived the First World War, in excess of 250 naval men were returning home to celebrate their first New Year of peace. But in the blackest of nights, in a rising gale, HMY Iolaire sank within yards of the Lewis coast. The Western Isles sent 6,000 men to serve in the First World War, and sustained the heaviest casualty rate of any area of British Empire, losing over 1,000 men by the end of the war.

GRAMMY-nominated arranger, trombonist and award-winning vocalist Pete McGuinness leads his 17-piece jazz orchestra celebrating the release of its third CD for Summit Records “Along For The Ride”. The band is full of long-time respected NYC jazz musicians and will present works by Pete that appear on the band’s new recording, including creative takes on such well-known classic songs as “You Must Believe In Spring” and “Put On A Happy Face”.

A vicious man-made fire leaves the once idyllic suburb of Eternity reduced to rubble. Emerging from the ashes is Sloan, a housewife who spent months hidden alone in an underground bunker. Shocked by the fire's aftermath and her stark new reality, Sloan sets out to find her missing family amongst the wreckage. Befriended by an amicable guide named Peeky Joe, the pair journey through a radiation-riddled wasteland in search of The Disciples, a ruthless gang known to force survivors into slavery. But battling the new world order may take her to a point of no return in this action-packed post-apocalyptic thriller.

This second release on New Focus from the musicians from soundSCAPE highlights the cultivated programming of this Italian summer festival focusing on contemporary music. Two of the three works, by Jesse Jones and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, are narrative and text driven, while the third, by Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez is inspired by visual art and the creation of musical systems. Throughout, the musicians from soundSCAPE perform with virtuosity and commitment, highlighting the richness of these scores, absent as they are of bombast and traces of stylistic agendas.

On June 4, 1989 the world's biggest, longest, and most famous pro-democracy demonstration was brought to a tragic end. The images from those final bloody days still burn bright in our imaginations; the death toll - from the Chinese official figure of 300 to estimates as high as 15,000 - is still disputed.
