The Big Short 2015

This release presents all existing live recordings by the legendary mid-fifties Dizzy Gillespie big Band made during their 1956 South American tour. The short-lived group featured such talents as Quincy Jones, Lee Morgan, Joe Gordon, Melba Liston, Al Grey, Phil Woods, Benny Golson and Wynton Kelly. Also included here are two sambas recorded in Rio de Janeiro by the trumpeter with a Brazilian orchestra, as well as four amazing tracks featuring Diz in Buenos Aires with the tango orchestra of Osvaldo Fresedo.

42 original albums (+4 EPs and 27 Singles) gathered on 20CDs ‘Jazz From America On Disques Vogue’ reviews the revolutionary passage from the 78 rpm to the Long-Play era. A totally cool little package – one that features 20 different CDs, each done as a different tiny replica of a 10" LP that originally appeared on the Vogue Records label overseas! Vogue was well-known for recording important sessions by American jazzmen in Paris in the early 50s – but this package brings together work that was recorded in America by many of the same artists, and issued by Vogue in unique packages overseas – many of which are replicated here, along with bonus material too! The set features 20 CDs, but includes 40 different albums – as each CD features tracks from original 10" album releases – with full details on tracks, personnel, and other information in the large booklet provided – a great complement to the records by artists who include Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Red Norvo, Lester Young, Mahalia Jackson, Spirit Of Memphis Quartet, Wynonie Harris, Earl Bostic, Charlie Parker, Charlie Christian, Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Sidney Bechet, Miles Davis, and others!

This collection highlights the very best extended mixes released by Virgin Records on the company’s famed Front Line label, from 1976 to 1981. The 2CD set brings together the most sought-after reggae discomixes of the late 70s and early 80s and includes numerous recordings new to CD. Despite the fact that front line have already produced compilations recently that feature a fair number of discomixes ('presents roots' and 'sounds of reality'), they have still been able to squeeze out a mighty fine collection of such, as a stand alone set. Despite the brevity of the label's existence, the quality of material produced is nothing short of phenomenal, but i imagine that this will be the last in the series, as front line's timespan precludes both rocksteady and dancehall. The only real possibility for a further volume would be a 'deejay' set' although, again, a fair number of these were included in the 'roots' album (and here!).

The ultra dynamic label Frontiers Music is excited to announce the release of the brand new IMPELLITTERI, the ninth studio album entitled “Venom” on April 17th in Europe and April 21st in North America… Ok, first I must confess that I’m a die-hard of this guitar-alien-hero and Italian-American shredding monster, hiding under the name of Chris Impellitteri and consequently, I'm a big supporter of his band, featuring as vocalist, the one and only Rob Rock (DRIVER/ex M.A.R.S./ex JOSHUA).Their latest masterpiece “Wicked Maiden” was one of my favorite CD of 2009, however, I will do my best to write an unbiased review and a fair evaluation useful for the non-guitar addicts.
