The Critic (2023)

Australian-based folk diviner LEAH SENIOR has just announced her fourth studio album The Music That I Make is set for release this August via Poison City. The album's lead single ‘Pony’ sits alongside a playful video clip directed by Izzie Austin (Romero, RVG, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard).

The first-class pairing of Charlie Siem and Itamar Golan release their debut album with Signum; Between the Clouds invites the listener into a Parisian-styled ‘salon’ for an intimate performance of classic pieces for violin and piano.

A famous backstage photo was taken in Chicago after one of just three performances that Callas gave of Madama Butterfly; it shows the soprano in her Japanese costume, snarling furiously at a bailiff who had served a writ on her – the very image of the tempestuous diva.

The conductor seems "too good for him", Maria Callas, according to his impression, "obviously does not feel comfortable vocally in this part" and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf "does not fit in with the rest of the ensemble".

Demonstrating a deep-seated flair for soul and R&B, Paul Simon recruited gospel backup singers and traveled to the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to further refine the vibrant sounds he desired for There Goes Rhymin' Simon. Clearly, his instincts proved correct. Many rightly consider the iconic singer-songwriter's third album a masterpiece – one that, per critic Robert Christgau, "suggests a new grace and flexibility for the mass-pop mode, and invests small subjects and emotions with an almost luminous wit and awareness."
