Flush from remixing Elvis to his 30th number one with A Little Less Conversation as JXL, Dutch DJ Tom Holkenborg turned down a request from the Beatles to remix something of theirs and instead reverted to his full moniker for this fantasy league of his favourite vocalists. Along similar lines to Oakenfold's similarly star-studded 2001 Bunkka, the album is based on an imaginary pirate broadcast and mixes Holkenborg's dance/trance sculptures with trademark vocals from the likes of Dave Gahan, Peter Tosh, Solomon Burke and Chuck D, with a real Cure-y jewel in the one sung by Robert Smith, Perfect Blue Sky. Holkenborg reinvents Gary Numan as a trance star and, in a real coup, coaxes Terry Hall into at last revisiting his fabulous early-Specials ska sound for Never Alone. Less successfully, there are a mystifying three awkward contributions from Republica's Saffron, and an accompanying chillout disc is mostly dull. But for all its wobbles and indulgence, this is infinitely superior to a JXL mix of, say, Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

“Nothing To Wish For (Nothing To Lose)” is a musical collage of colorful noises over a background of extremely sentimental phonetic and idyllic melodies. It is like musical paint full of intense colors, and at the same time like an abstract art with dark disposal. It touches upon the atmosphere and the chaotic intensity of dream pop music and is hiding through post rock paths. It loses a little bit of the noise their previous album “Daylight Storms” had, but it is stronger in composition structures and sentimentally. It has an erotic style that contains beautiful and planned well melodies, full of excellent guitars that they engrave on your skin. The voice of Matt Bartram has something different and gains you sympathy immediately. The sound is old fashioned, but emerges and creates fresh musical ideas. The guitars vary, the rhythm plays extremely with the drums and the dark noise from the keys and the suitable sound effects make the atmosphere light, plain and magic. This is the best shoegaze release after their previous one. No one can reach them they are the best. As I said in the single review they are unique. This Is a Fantastic album.

As the post-punk dust began to settle, a particular strand of artist began applying a knowingly distant, colder aesthetic to their work. While much of the scene began to be dominated by bigger budget, commercially minded former punk and new wave acts, a darker undercurrent did survive, often more interesting, more dangerous and sexier than anything that could be heard on Top Of The Pops at the time. The first generation of the darkwave movement consisted of bands that were equally influenced by the fractured drama of Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Cure as they were by the art damaged experimentation of Cabaret Voltaire, Wire and Throbbing Gristle, always rich in Gothic spirt, societal displacement, urban isolation and sexual energy.
