The Forest Unseen

Plants live secret, unseen lives. But they are as aggressive, competitive and dramatic as animals - locked in life-and-death struggles for food and light, taking part in fierce battles for territory, and desperately trying to reproduce and scatter their young. Using pioneering new filmmaking technology and the very latest science, The Green Planet from BBC Studios reveals this strange and wonderful world of plants like never before. Sir David Attenborough travels across the globe, from the USA to Costa Rica, Croatia to northern Europe to find brand new stories and a fresh understanding of how plants live their lives. The original soundtrack is composed by Benji Merrison and Will Slater who reveal, “The challenge was to create a score which allows the audience to connect with plants on an emotional level, much more of a conundrum than when scoring for the animal kingdom.”

Throughout history, there have been rare individuals who transcend what most of us believe to be possible: enlightened beings who have access to experience and knowledge most of us do not have. The Indian-born avatar Mother Meera is such an individual. Born Kamala Reddy to an illiterate family, she was, from a young age, observed to be different from other children - she would sit in the forest for hours on end without moving or uttering a word and soon began attracting a following of devotees who would arrive to sit in her presence.

Turning shadows into sonic emotional rivers, synthesist and composer Jeff Greinke’s A THOUSAND YEAR FLOOD skirts the edges where modern classical, electronic and ambient music converge. Working with cellist/violist Heather Bentley, Greinke’s first record for Projekt in 36 years is a hybrid of ambient chamber music and electroacoustic beauty. Throughout the near-hour-long set, atmosphere is critical to the impact as Greinke locates his paired-back minimalism within a setting of spaciousness and sensitivity.
