This album marked the formal debut of the psychedelic-era Moody Blues; though they'd made a pair of singles featuring new (as of 1966) members Justin Hayward and John Lodge, Days of Future Passed was a lot bolder and more ambitious. What surprises first-time listeners – and delighted them at the time – is the degree to which the group shares the spotlight with the London Festival Orchestra without compromising their sound or getting lost in the lush mix of sounds.

From the moment he exploded from Florida onto the New York scene in 1955, Cannonball Adderley was accepted by musicians, critics and listeners as a welcome arrival. By the time he and Milt Jackson teamed up for Things Are Getting Better, Adderley was becoming a major figure, due in part to his membership in the Miles Davis Sextet, but primarily because of the expansive joyousness of his playing. Jackson’s role in modern jazz went back to the early days of bebop when Dizzy Gillespie sent for him in 1945 to come from Detroit and join his sextet. Adderley and Jackson had in common superb skills in all aspects of music, a broad understanding and deep appreciation of jazz history and styles, and the earthiness bred by immersion in the blues. With the superlative rhythm section of Wynton Kelly, Percy Heath and Art Blakey, they produced one of the most exhilarating albums of the 20th century.

In the Court of the Crimson King (an observation by King Crimson) is the 1969 debut album by the British progressive rock group King Crimson. The album reached #3 on the British charts. The album is certified gold in the United States. The album is generally viewed as one of the strongest of the progressive rock genre, where blues-oriented rock was mixed together with jazz and European symphonic elements. In his 1997 book Rocking the Classics, criticmusicologist Edward Macan notes that In the Court of the Crimson King may be the most influential progressive rock album ever released. The Who's Pete Townshend was quoted as calling the album an uncanny masterpiece. The album was remastered and re-released on vinyl and CD several times during the 1980s and 1990s. The original stereo master tapes were finally located in a Virgin Records storage vault in 2003, leading to a much improved remastered CD version released in 2004. ---Wikipedia

After the symphonic majesty of The Soft Bulletin, the Flaming Lips return with Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, a sublime fusion of Bulletin's newfound emotional directness, the old-school playfulness of Transmissions From the Satellite Heart, and, more importantly, exciting new expressions of the group's sentimental, experimental sound. While the album isn't as immediately impressive as the equally brilliant and unfocused Soft Bulletin, it's more consistent, using a palette of rounded, surprisingly emotive basslines; squelchy analog synths; and manicured acoustic guitars to craft songs like "One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21," a sleekly melancholy tale of robots developing emotions, and "In the Morning of the Magicians," an aptly named electronic art rock epic that sounds like a collaboration between the Moody Blues and Wendy Carlos.

Originally a product of Britain's new romantic movement, Depeche Mode went on to become the quintessential electro-pop band of the 1980s. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they began their existence as a bouncy dance-pop outfit but gradually developed a darker, more dramatic sound that ultimately positioned them as one of the most successful alternative bands of their era.
