Most famous for his vocal and guitar work in the group Ten Years After, Alvin Lee had a long solo career after the band dispersed, still working in the hard rock, rockabilly, and British blues style that TYA did until his sudden death in Spain in the spring of 2013. This set captures his last live show, a concert held in Raalte, Holland, on May 28, 2012, with a crisp rhythm section of Pete Pritchard on bass and Richard Newman on drums. The show was recorded, and although it wasn't recorded to be an official release, Lee was pleased with the performance and authorized its release, not knowing, of course, that it would be his swan song.

By the late 1960s, Rock and Pop Rock were so popular that they began to become part of another major movement of the time that was also on the upswing and becoming more and more popular: Saturday Morning Cartoons. With The Beatles at their peak of power, characters suddenly formed Rock bands of their own. The Hardy Boys did this with some friends, Pop/Rock records appeared at the climax of every original Scooby Doo show and even breakfast cereal ads sported mascots singing “yea, yea, yea” while The Monkees (the live action hit eventually rerun successfully on Saturdays) offered TV’s all original band.
Don Kirshner had made that series possible and soon was giving the same treatment to the hit characters from Archie Comics. First established in 1941, Archie Andrews and his gang were The Beatles of the comedy genre in comic books and to this day, know no rival.

Genre: Classic Rock

UK two CD Tour Edition includes a bonus CD containing 12 brilliant live tracks, taken mainly from the 2010 Mojo US tour. 2010 album from the veteran rockers, their first album in eight years. The first thing that hits you about Mojo is that this is the sound of a band playing together in a room - not a studio - facing each other, all singing and playing at the same time. The music is alive, with no overdubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what they created on the spot at that time. Tom Petty says, "With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band. Mojo is where the band lives when it's playing for itself." As for the songs, Mojo showcases a wide variety of American music from Rock 'n' Roll to Country and both electric and acoustic Blues. Mojo has juice and guts but it also has some sweet balladry for the slow dancers and even a wacked-out Reggae number that is unlike anything that Heartbreakers have done before. It's the kind of album nobody's supposed to be able to make anymore. It got here just in time.

See for Miles' 1990 compilation The Best of Idle Race contains a generous 25 tracks – just over half of what the Idle Race recorded. This means that it does have the great majority of the best material the band recorded, and it would satisfy everyone outside of the rabid collectors who need anything. The catch is, if you're into the Idle Race, you need everything, so this collection is essentially a stopgap until you can track down (or afford) EMI's 1996 complete collection, Back to the Story. Even then, this may be a little more listenable, since it boils the group's interesting but erratic career to its very best – which is obscure British psych at its best (in other words, it's for the collectors who will seek it out, not anyone else).

The Sunshine Company's very name summons the spirit of the mini-genre of 1960s pop-rock that, long after its heyday, was named sunshine pop. So does their music, with the requisite exquisite multi-part male-female harmonies, buoyant optimism, and luxuriant late-1960s L.A. studio production. Look a little under the surface, though, and you find tinges of eccentric melancholy that set them apart from many of the frothy Mamas and the Papas-like groups of the period. Just as their music was more multi-dimensional than you might be led to believe by their trio of Top 100 hits, so was their story more complex than many would imagine. Could there have been any other band whose brief career whisked them through the orbits of the Carpenters, the Fifth Dimension, Jackson Browne, the Jefferson Airplane, Mary McCaslin, and John Davidson, ending at the even unlikelier destination of a pre-stardom Gregg Allman?
