'Beyond the Screen: Film Works On Piano' is an album by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman OBE comprising some of her most cherished film music for solo piano. She refers to the piano as her best friend, adding 'I spend all day with it, most days. I think probably I'm pianistic in my soul'. Hence, piano miniatures are a natural second life for her highly melodic scores. The album comprises various solo piano arrangements based on her well-known soundtracks such as 'Chocolat', 'The Cider House Rules' and 'The Dutchess'. Portman was very selective, however, about which pieces would translate best without an orchestra: 'I wanted them to be pieces that work in their own way, that are satisfying'.

Beneath The Watchful Eyes plays well-built postrock music that is cinematic and influenced by electronic music. The duo is from Blackpool UK, Simon Morgan and Barry Parkinson are also members of another post-rock band; Goonies Never Say Die. Simon is also a member of Midas Fall. Having released two albums with their band Goonies Never Say Die, they decided to retreat into their home studio and get busy trying to create something unique and beautiful. This is the sound that came out of hours of experimenting with different tones, beats and emotions. Ranging from glitch/math post-rock to ambient piano pieces swathed in electronic noise, Beneath The Watchful Eyes create music which has an over-arching feel but with constant changes in dynamic.
