The only album of the band from The Hague. Created in 1965. They regularly performed in pubs and nightclubs in The Hague, performing rhythm and blues. The band caught the attention of the label "Polydor", which signed them to a contract. Their first single "Cry Me A River" (a cover of a Julie London song) reached #27 on the Top 40. After this success, the band members quit their jobs and focus solely on music. However, their second single "Can You Hear Me" did not bring them success. The group's third single "Something You Got" was recorded in September 1966 in London and reached the top of the Top 40 hit parade. Soon the group released their only album "I'll Follow You". The following year, drummer Henk van Meerbeek left the band and was replaced by Cesar Zuiderwijk (ex-"Ladybirds") and the band released a new single "Touchin' You Is Lovin' You". Then Fred de Wilde left the band to become the first (before Mariska Veres) vocalist of "Shocking Blue" and the band disbanded. On June 13, 1980, a big concert took place in The Hague, at which the newly assembled Hu And The Hilltops performed together with the bands Q 65 and Shocking Blue.

The Velvet Underground was one of music's most influential rock groups. Often referred to as the dark side of the psychedelic era, The Velvet Underground was rock's first great underground band. Its members consist of singer/guitarist Lou Reed, multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist/bassist Sterling Morrison and percussionist Maureen Tucker. Their daring and politically-charged lyrics help shade music forever.

Produced in association with founder, frontman and principle songwriter Guy Chadwick, ‘Burn Down The World’ takes an in-depth look at that period in the band’s career, both in the studio and onstage. Featuring countless never before heard demos, lost tracks and live recordings sourced from Fontana’s archive, alongside rare fan club-only releases, compilation appearances, promotional versions and tracks never before available on CD, and accompanied by the thoughts of Guy Chadwick, ‘Burn Down The World’ sheds new light and insight on a rollercoaster ride which took House Of Love from indie darlings to mainstream globetrotters.

The album’s five original pieces, originating between 2006 and 2014, create topographies of all sorts. Each constrains the musicians differently, sending us on different kinds of terrains. “Reminiscing” and “The Acadian Orogeny” are hikes: we create the vivid details of the landscape as we follow a predetermined path. “Movable Cogs” is a crawl through the daily grind until we break away, eventually returning home to find ourselves transformed.

After a few years of outdoing the Rolling Stones at their own game, Messrs. May and Co., clearly affected by their love of swinging London nightlife and all that went with it, injected their primal R&B roots with added spice (as Mike Stax, "numero uno Los Pretty Things fan," points out in his excellent liner notes). "Can't Stand the Pain" (from the 1965 Get The Picture album) has "a remarkably effective mood with a sense of a dreamy disembodiment that foreshadows what was yet to come with the arrival of psychedelia." By April 1966, B-side "LSD," yet another controversial shot in the Pretty Things' canon, helped pioneer the "freakbeat" sound, whilst the media's attacks on the Pretties slack, druggy values were foremost to the changing times - in fact, the record was a play on words about the English economy and not a celebration of the merits of LSD usage…
