The Role of The Youth

cult of youth began as a bedroom project in 2006 when founder sean ragon took a broken acoustic guitar, a $20 mackie mixer, and a roland rack synth and tried to recreate the atmosphere of the post-industrial and neo folk records he had been obsessed with since childhood. the project eventually evolved into a fully fledged band and for the better part of a decade released a string of genre-bending albums that made perfect sense to some people and absolutely no sense to others.

This two-volume, edited collection lays the groundwork for an international exploration of incarceration and generation. Volume I explores an array of experiences, dynamics, cultures, interventions and impacts (in its different forms) of incarceration in specific generations: childhood, youth and emerging adulthood, adulthood and older age.

Drawing on fieldwork conducted in Moscow and St. Petersburg among the political opposition's youth group Oborona (Defence), this ground-breaking work brings forward a multifaceted and colourful image of the life of political opposition activists in a restricted political environment.
