The Secret Life

English is changing all around us. We see this in new words such as “bling” and “email,” and from the loss of old forms such as “shall.” It’s a human impulse to play with language and to create new words and meanings—but also to worry about the decay of language. Does text messaging signal the end of “pure English”? Why do teenagers pepper their sentences with “like” and “you know”?

Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for the animated sequel The Secret Life of Pets 2. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) who previously scored the 2016 original film. Also included is the Jack Antonoff’s cover of Paul Simon’s Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard and a new cover of It’s Gonna Be a Lovely Day by LunchMoneyLewis feat. Aminé. The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, May 31, 2019 and will be available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. A CD version is set to come out on July 19 and is available for pre-order here.The Secret Life of Pets 2 is directed by Chris Renaud and features the voice talent of Kevin Hart, Patton Oswalt, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Dana Carvey, Harrison Ford, Tiffany Haddish, Pete Holmes, Garth Jennings, Ellie Kemper, Nick Kroll, Bobby Moynihan, Jenny Slate and Eric Stonestreet.
