Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered and expanded 2 CD set of all the recordings by British Progressive / West Coast influenced rock band Gypsy released by United Artists Records between 1971 and 1972. The band evolved from the Leicester based band Legay who released a single on the Fontana label before morphing in to Gypsy in 1969. The band featured featured Robin Pizer (vocals, guitar), John Knapp (guitar, keyboards), Rod Read (guitar), David McCarthy (bass / vocals) and David 'Moth' Smith (drums). The band was influenced by US West Coast bands such as Buffalo Springfield, Moby Grape and HP Lovecraft and forged their own unique musical style. The band paid their dues on the UK live music circuit, supporting such acts as The Who and Led Zeppelin and earned themselves a spot on the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival, performing on two consecutive nights.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the next release in their series of compilations celebrating the so-called “underground” rock music – “Taking Some Time On – Underground Sounds of 1970”, is a 4 CD clamshell boxed set which gathers together over five hours of music from 1970, the first year of a new decade that would see Progressive music in all its forms become a dominating force with the album-buying public. The innocence of psychedelia and the optimism expressed by such vast expressions of the Hippy ideal as the Woodstock Festival in New York State and the Hyde Park Free Festivals of 1969 in London were shattered by the violence of the Altamont Festival in California at the end of the year. As 1970 dawned, a more cynical tone began to appear in the counter-culture which was also reflected in some of the music by “Progressive” artists as some music got heavier or more anarchic. Jazz, blues, hard rock, folk and classical music influences melded together to form a diversity of music among so-called Underground artists, championed by “underground” figures of the day such as John Peel on his BBC Radio One show Top Gear.

First-ever complete 3CD anthology of cult late 60s UK psychedelic pop band The Mirage. Features all of their singles (including pseudonymous releases), numerous demos, previously-unreleased recordings and BBC sessions.After serving an apprenticeship on the mid-60s Hertfordshire beat scene, The Mirage became house band at Beatles’ publisher Dick James’ Oxford Street demo studio. After forming a friendship with The Hollies, The Mirage cut a couple of singles for CBS before James and his regular business partner, Kinks/Troggs manager Larry Page, oversaw the band’s subsequent, heavily Beatles-influenced releases on the Philips and Page One labels. The Mirage then moved over to Mervyn Conn’s Carnaby label, where they cut a single as Portebello Explosion before releasing a 1970 album under the name Jawbone. A lavish 3CD digipack set, ‘The World Goes On Around You’ is the first-ever complete Mirage anthology, featuring all of their singles, the Jawbone album, numerous studio out- takes, alternative versions and BBC sessions.
