Theory of Rings

Timothy O'Meara was born on January 29, 1928. He was educated at the University of Cape Town and completed his doctoral work under Emil Artin at Princeton University in 1953. He has served on the faculties of the University of Otago, Princeton University and the University of Notre Dame. From 1978 to 1996 he was provost of the University of Notre Dame. In 1991 he was elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

This book presents some of the most important aspects of rigid geometry, namely its applications to the study of smooth algebraic curves, of their Jacobians, and of abelian varieties - all of them defined over a complete non-archimedean valued field.

This book contains select papers on rings, monoids and module theory which are presented at the 3rd International Conference on Mathematics and Statistics (AUS-ICMS 2020) held at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from 6–9 February 2020. This conference was held in honour of the work of the distinguished algebraist Daniel D. Anderson.
