One of the most dynamic soul singers in music history, Tina Turner emanated sex appeal from every pore in a career as a performer that began in the moment she entered the stage as lead singer of The Ike & Tina Turner Revue in the late 50s. Her courageous and hissing performances tear down doors everywhere, building on the double-barreled attack of gospel passion and sexual ease that Soul had originally formed from. After nearly 50 years in the music business, Tina Turner has become one of the most commercially successful international female rock stars. Her vivacious, powerful voice, her time-lasting beauty and her incomparable life story all gave her legendary status.

Twenty-six of the duo's 1964-1967 recordings (five previously unissued) for the Kent and Modern labels are on this compilation. Note, however, that this is just a partial retrospective of their mid-'60s work, since during this time the Turners were also releasing sides on several different other labels. It remains, though, a good sampling of their sound during this era, when their soul tracks still betrayed much of their blues/R&B roots, and before the arrangements had gotten as heavy and beefy as they would in the late '60s and early '70s. Tina Turner's vocals are unflaggingly enthusiastic and committed, if perhaps not as nuanced as they could be. What keeps this from the top rank of mid-'60s soul, however, is the largely average, occasionally below average material (mostly written by Ike Turner). It's often a collision of blues, chitlin circuit R&B, and brassy pop-soul that sounds a bit dashed off. There are some ace moments along the way, of course, like the infectious "I Can't Believe What You Say," the down-and-bluesy "Hurt Is All You Gave Me," and the swaggering soul-swing shuffle of "Chicken Shack." Ike Turner's twangy guitar seems underutilized for much of the set, and there's very little of the vocal sparring that would be such a big part of their act by the early '70s. Tina Turner goes into a big rap on the previously unissued "All I Could Do Was Cry" where she really overdoes the raspy breast-beating; Etta James' more famous version has a big edge. "Give Me Your Love" is minor-keyed blues/R&B that's not too far from Otis Rush territory; at the other extreme, "Makin' Plans Together" has gossamer strings typical of the New York pop-soul on the Scepter/Wand labels. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

Private Dancer is the fifth solo studio album by Tina Turner, released on Capitol Records in May 1984. Remastered in 2015, and reissued with 15 bonus tracks of B-sides, remixes, live recordings and rarities, including the duet with Bryan Adams "It's Only Love" and the duet with David Bowie "Tonight", also including her two songs of the "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" soundtrack.

'Break Every Rule' was Tina's follow-up album to the hugely successful comeback album 'Private Dancer' (1984). The first single 'Typical Male' was a big chart success. 'Back Where You Started' earned Tina another Grammy for best rock vocal performance, female in 1987. The album included several star-studded guest performances and songwriting from David Bowie, Mark Knopfler, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Steve Winwood and many more. It also saw the return of Terry Britten and Graham Lyle's songwriting partnership, penning the first five tracks of the album. The expanded 2CD edition contains the contents of the first 2CDs from the 3CD/2DVD deluxe edition. The first CD features the original album fully remastered for the first time, with the second CD containing a collection of B-sides, remixes and live performances.

Simply the Best is the first greatest hits compilation by Tina Turner and was released on October 22, 1991. The album includes Turner's most popular hits since her comeback in the early-mid 1980s. It also includes three new songs that were previously unreleased; "Love Thing" (UK Airplay #13), "I Want You Near Me" (#22 UK), and "Way of the World" (UK Airplay #6 and UK #13) as well as a re-recorded dance version of Turner's classic "Nutbush City Limits", all of which were also issued as singles in 1991 and 1992. The album is Turner's biggest seller in the UK where it is one of the best selling albums of all time for sales in excess of 2.4 million copies. It was certified 8x platinum in the UK and stayed on the UK charts for over 140 weeks. The album sold over 7 million copies worldwide.
