The long awaited new Tingvall Trio album, ‘In Concert’, was recorded during their European tour, in autumn 2012 - and is their first live release. 78½ minutes of pure energy and invention, featuring tracks from their previous 4 albums : 2 pieces from ‘Vagen’, 2 from ‘Vattensaga’, 4 from ‘Norr’ and 6 from their 2006 debut album, ‘Skagerrak’.The Tingvall Trio, led by pianist Martin Tingvall, are often compared to the legendary Esbjorn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) due to the exuberant energy and clarity of their music, and because Martin is also Swedish. His trio partners are : Cuban bass-player Omar Rodriguez Calvo (who has worked with Roy Hargrove and Ramon Valle), and German drummer Jürgen Spiegel, who studied with Bill Stewart and Cindy Blackman. Martin was a student of Bobo Stenson.

On "The Rocket" Martin Tingvall more than ever before created his own genre and takes his audience on a journey into new musical worlds. But don't let yourself be fooled by the title: "The Rocket" is starting slowly and gentle into space.

Nachdem er mit dem Tingvall Trio mittlerweile auch international von Erfolg zu Erfolg eilt und zuletzt mit „Vägen“ die No.1 der Jazzcharts und eine Platzierung in den Pop Charts erreichte, das Trio 2010 und 2012 mit dem Kritikerpreis ECHO JAZZ „Ensemble des Jahres, national“ ausgezeichnet wurde und die Fans die Formation 2012 mit dem Publikumspreis ECHO JAZZ „Live Act des Jahres“ ehrten, wendet sich der in Hamburg und Südschweden lebende Pianist auf En Ny Dag kleinen musikalischen Szenen zu, die man trefflich unter der Überschrift „Kopfkino“ zusammenfassen kann. Seine Kompositionen nehmen sich Ruhe und Zeit, der Hörer wird von Tingvall in Stimmungen entführt, die jeder in sich trägt. Melancholie, Fröhlichkeit, Erhabenheit oder „verzaubert sein“ – Momente der Erinnerung, die der Pianist vorbeiziehen lässt. Martin Tingvall begreift sein Solo-Spiel jetzt ausdrücklich als Dialog mit dem Zuhörer.

In 2023 the Tingvall Trio is celebrating 20 years together as a band. What's particularly remarkable is that from the time the trio was created right up to the album being presented here, BIRDS, their ninth, the lineup has always remained the same. Alongside Martin Tingvall on piano, who gave the trio it's name, we have Omar Rodriguez Calvo on double bass and Jürgen Spiegel in his realm of drums and percussion. These three musicians based in Hamburg, Germany have managed to write a success story over all the years that is hard to match: multiple ECHO JAZZ Awards as ensemble and Live Act of the Year, a total of six JAZZ Awards in Gold, two Impala Awards for international sales, a whole series of No. 1 Jazz Chart albums, and four times with high rankings on the German Top 100 Album Charts.

"And again a new piano album" says Martin Tingvall's website. The Swedish jazz pianist and songwriter will present his fourth album on his own in 2021: "When Light Returns". The last album "The Rocket" was released in 2019, which landed at number one on the German jazz charts, and in 2020 the long player "Dance" was released together with his trio.

The Hamburg-based Tingvall Trio - comprised of Martin Tingvall (piano), Omar Rodriguez Calvo (double bass), and Jürgen Spiegel (drums) - present "Cirklar", an album that reflects on life and the passing of time.
