The Hamburg-based Tingvall Trio - comprised of Martin Tingvall (piano), Omar Rodriguez Calvo (double bass), and Jürgen Spiegel (drums) - present "Cirklar", an album that reflects on life and the passing of time.

In 2023 the Tingvall Trio is celebrating 20 years together as a band. What's particularly remarkable is that from the time the trio was created right up to the album being presented here, BIRDS, their ninth, the lineup has always remained the same.

Over the last ten years, Tingvall Trio has evolved into an unparalleled success story for 'Jazz made in Germany'. What was once a rough & tumble band from Hamburg, is now regarded as one of the premier German export hits in its genre. And it's certainly no coincidence that this ensemble has managed to unite different generations of listeners behind its musical concept so well that even today's media-inundated young audience has been regained for Jazz. They have won three ECHO Jazz awards as Ensemble of the Year or Live Act of the Year, four Jazz Awards respectively for more than 10,000 units of recorded audio media sold in Germany for each of their four studio albums thus far, live appearances in far and had more than 20 countries.

"And again a new piano album" says Martin Tingvall's website. The Swedish jazz pianist and songwriter will present his fourth album on his own in 2021: "When Light Returns". The last album "The Rocket" was released in 2019, which landed at number one on the German jazz charts, and in 2020 the long player "Dance" was released together with his trio.

When Martin Tingvall released his first solo album, ‟en ny dag”, back in 2012, he intentionally presented a new facet of his artistic creativity: let’s call it ‛the quiet side.‘ The German weekly DIE ZEIT praised the album as ‟soul-searching, reserved, movingly serene” and verified that ‟Tingvall gathers up jazz aficionados at the point where Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea once left them …” FAZ, another German newspaper, added: ‟Tingvall‘s lyrical style endeavors to reinforce our faith in the unassuming.” The poetry with which Martin Tingvall touched his listeners struck a nerve with an audience bent on barricading itself for a moment against being inundated with information and superlatives vying to outdo each other.

On "The Rocket" Martin Tingvall more than ever before created his own genre and takes his audience on a journey into new musical worlds. But don't let yourself be fooled by the title: "The Rocket" is starting slowly and gentle into space. Martin Tingvall who is known as a jazzpianist but also feels at home in genres like rock, pop and filmmusic, has composed simple sounding but emotional touching melodies which seem to appear classical music themes. "Our world is rapidly changing. Digitisating is changing almost all areas of society and our daily life. With this album I wanted to create a counter-pole of tranquillity. At the same time I'm exploring new musical worlds. And it is always the music showing me the way."
