It would be hard to foresee a young kid from Bavaria becoming a celebrated jazz saxophonist in New York City. Tobias Meinhart has done that, sculpting a career of brilliant recordings and world touring. One of his principal ensembles in this endeavor has been his Germany-based Berlin People, which features the revolutionary guitarist, Kurt Rosenwinkel. Meinhart and Berlin People’s new recording, Dark Horse, celebrates how far he and the ensemble have come since their inception.

The dream of many international jazz musicians is to experience the jazz life of New York City. Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart had the same dream and made a move to the City from his native Germany a decade ago. Having lived in New York for ten years, he came to the realization that a young man from Bavaria can never be from Harlem and that his German roots are central to his musical identity.

His new recording, The Painter, presents his recent work of diverse, brilliant pieces meant to brighten the world’s canvas.

There are times in life when your direction is set anew. Tobias Meinhart dedicates his new album to such times. "In Between" stands for a leap into the unknown, life between continents and the search for his own voice in music. Following his much-praised debut in the "Next Generation" series (Pursuit of Happiness, 2011, Doublemoon), "In Between" is the logical successor three years later (Doublemoon, 2014). This CD provides an unusual range of sounds, above all thanks to the participation of various singers.

For his album 'Berlin People', Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart wanted to bridge the musical cultures of New York City and Germany by recording with a band of his German peers and an American jazz guitarist who has made Berlin his home, the great Kurt Rosenwinkel.

The ‘Brooklyn Aliens’ are a Brooklyn based collective made up of five jazz musicians from four different countries: Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Chile. All members share the same story, they left their home countries to pursue a music career in New York City. Each member of the collective holds an "Artist Visa," which defines them as "aliens with extraordinary abilities" and allows them to perform throughout the United States. All five members have and continue to tour and perform in numerous countries throughout the world.

Some have to spend another lifetime looking for the ideal fellow musicians. Not an issue for the creative heads behind the trio JUNG//JUNG though: they're twin brothers and they apparently share the same DNA in terms of groove. Alex Jung plays a sixstring guitar, Heiko Jung plays a six-string bass. Two instruments, as different as they are alike. Two brothers, as identical as they are distinctive.
