A-Tom-Ic Jones, Jones' cleverly titled third album, featured no major hit singles and failed to chart in the U.S. Jones sings well, but he doesn't have the material to match his performance, making the album noticeably weaker than his first two collections.

At age 62, Tom Jones is, in a sense, making a comeback with each new recording. That is certainly the case with Mr. Jones, on which he puts himself in the hands of producers Wyclef Jean and Jerry Duplessis. Jones has never minded being the mouthpiece of a producer or two, confident enough in his own persona to stretch to meet different styles. Here, he collaborates with his partners, co-writing many of the songs. And the trio isn't afraid to take on the Jones' legend directly, starting with the lead-off track, "Tom Jones International," which even finds the singer rapping – well, sort of – in a dance-friendly paean to himself.

"I was trying to find the thread that connects one type of music - one type of musician - toanother, and to follow that thread in some kind of natural, evolutionary way." - (Tom Jones on the "This Is Tom Jones' TV show)
In the handful of years that the show aired on television, a host of famous actors, comedians and singers graced the stage. After it made its debut appearance, the programme went on to have two more series with a total of 65 episodes by the time it came to an end in 1971. Tom Jones Gold is a two-disc, 42-track set that does an admirable job of mixing all his major hits recorded between 1965 and 1975 for the American Parrot label with well-chosen album tracks and B-sides. Interestingly, the U.K. Deram versions of Jones' singles and albums would occasionally differ slightly from the U.S. releases. All eight of those tracks are wisely included on Gold along with remastered favorites like "Delilah," "She's a Lady," "What's New Pussycat?" "Green, Green Grass of Home," "I (Who Have Nothing)" and "Help Yourself." Recommended for those who want to go a step beyond the average greatest-hits package.

TOM JONES Tom Sings The Beatles (2007 Russian 10-track CD album - both sexy and sophisticated, Tom and his unmistakable golden baritone defined an entire era. Like Sinatra, Elvis, or the Beatles, you cannot define Tom by comparing him to anyone else, he is simply Tom Jones. So perhaps it is fitting that throughout his career he has always been drawn to the music of The Beatles, and his cover versions of the Fab Four have become classics in their own right, presented in sealed digipak sleeve).

This material is culled from The Tom Jones Show, circa 1980 and 1981. Its fidelity therefore fluctuates and is never up to remaster quality. Jones' performances, too, are informed by era. He belts his way through passable, if a bit maudlin versions of "I Love a Rainy Night" and Dolly Parton's "Nine to Five," for example. "What's New Pussycat?" is here; "It's Not Unusual" isn't. There's also the usual jumble of pop standards, performed in Jones' typically overdone style. Highlights include "Twist and Shout," "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Danny Boy," and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Jones aficionados might be interested in this set, as the performances are frozen in their 1980s time period. For the casual fan, there are plenty of well-mastered studio retrospectives covering Jones' career.
