What became his signature tune, "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)," was a Top Five hit in the U.S. and U.K. as both his Belafonte and Calypso albums hit number one that year. "Day-O" was part of a two-year run of sun-splashed calypso hits for the singer that also included "Cocoanut Woman" and "Island in the Sun," among others.
