Genesis were an English Rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and longest-lasting line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. Significant former members were guitarist Steve Hackett and original lead singer Peter Gabriel. The band underwent many changes in musical style over its career, from folk music to progressive rock in the 1970s, before moving towards pop at the end of the decade. They have sold 21.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the United States and their worldwide sales are estimated to be between 100 million and 150 million. All of the group's studio work since signing to Charisma has been remastered and re-released in 2007 as SACD, except their debut album (due the copyright issue).

"Abacab" is the 11th studio album by English rock band Genesis, released on 18 September 1981 in the United Kingdom by Charisma Records and 24 September 1981 in the United States by Atlantic Records. After their 1980 tour in support of their previous album Duke, the band took a break before they reconvened in 1981 to write and record a new album. Abacab is the first Genesis album recorded at The Farm, a recording studio bought by the group in Chiddingfold, Surrey. It marked the band's development from their progressive roots into more accessible and pop-oriented songs, and their conscious decision to write songs unlike their previous albums. "Abacab" received a mostly positive reception from critics and was a commercial success for the band, reaching #1 on the UK Albums Chart and #7 on the US Billboard 200.

"Foxtrot" is the 4th studio album by the English progressive rock band Genesis, released on 6 October 1972 on Charisma Records. It features their longest recorded song, the 23-minute track "Supper's Ready". The album was recorded following the tour in support of their previous album, "Nursery Cryme" (1971), which saw them gain popularity, including a well-received slot at the Great Western Express Festival, Lincolnshire in May 1972. The album was written over the summer of 1972 and combined songs that had already been performed live with new material worked out in jam sessions. Recording began in August with John Anthony, but sessions were prone to tension and disagreements. "Foxtrot" was the 1st Genesis album to chart in the UK, reaching #12, and received largely positive reviews. It went to #1 in Italy, their first album reaching #1 globally. A non-album single "Happy The Man" was released at the same time.

Crossover is an album by violinist David Cross and guitarist Peter Banks. The album is based on violin and guitar improvisations recorded on the afternoon of 10 August 2010. The two had met on a short joint tour in March 2006, featuring the David Cross Band and Peter Banks's Harmony in Diversity. Banks died in 2013 and Cross could not initially bring himself to return to the recordings. When he finally did, he worked with Tony Lowe and they invited in various musicians, largely with connections to Yes, of which Banks had been a member, or King Crimson, of which Cross had been a member. Additional parts were recorded in 2018/9. Guest musicians were invited to "interpret the music as freely and creatively as" they wished.

Although Peter Banks sadly died in 2013, this new studio album features some of his work which has never been released until now. On 10th August 2010 he and David Cross got together for an afternoon of improvisation and all guitar and violin parts are from that time. Banks had expressed his desire for this music to one day be made available, so over the last few years Cross asked some friends to become involved and help in making this album a reality…

For this innovative attempt to bridge the gap between art song and pop song, John Paul Jones (of Led Zeppelin fame), Sting and Genesis-keyboardist Tony Banks were commissioned to write new lute songs. Asking a rock music composer to set existing poetry within a genre we knew well meant that we singers wouldn't need to pretend to be pop singers we were still interpreting a text in a way that we're familiar with, writes John Potter in the liner notes.
