Originally a group of Los Angeles based studio musicians (including guitarist Steve Lukather, keyboardist David Paich, and the Porcaro brothers) aside from doing session work for other stars, Toto had a lengthy career of hits in their own right. Their commercial peak was 1982's "TOTO IV", which won several Grammy awards, including Album Of The Year. Toto is best known for their hits "Africa," "Hold The Line", "Rosanna", "Georgy Porgy" (covered by 3D and Eric Benet and sampled by MC Lyte on her track, "Poor Georgie"), and "I Won't Hold You Back" the last of which Roger Sanchez used for his worldwide hit, "Another Chance." After Steve Lukather decided to leave Toto in order to concentrate on his solo career the band became officially defunct as of mid 2008 although in 2010 they reformed allegedly for a short series of concerts only to support their former bassist Mike Porcaro who had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease.). However, the band continues to tour.

TOTO’s 4th album “TOTO IV” released in 1982 was a huge hit, ranking No. 4 on the U.S. album chart, and also spawned three smash hits. Along with the release, a world tour will begin, and the opening performance in Japan at Budokan on May 18th was recorded and broadcast as a special program on NHK.This “Alive The Live” release adds unaired songs taken from the audio master used for the broadcast, making up a total of 21 tracks, releasing it as a complete show of that night’s concert, on 2 CD.There’s great versions of now classics such as Hold The Line, Child’s Anthem, 99, Rosanna, a huge 15-min of ‘Africa’, and a killer Steve Lukather solo.

Toto's compilation is to be recommended in that it contains all four of the group's Top Ten hit singles – "Hold the Line," "Rosanna," "Africa," and "I Won't Hold You Back." It also contains four more of Toto's 14 pop chart singles – "Georgy Porgy," "99," "I'll Be Over You," and "Pamela.

Turn back is the most unpopular Toto album. The band is clearly searching for their own distinctive sound. Steve Lukather presented for the first time his own written song Live for today.
