Trojan Horse are one of those bands who defy easy categorisation. One week they’re playing progressive rock festivals sharing bills with the likes of Mostly Autumn and The Enid, the next week they’re supporting post-punk legends The Fall. To quote their own bio, the Salford-based quartet aim to drag 70s progressive rock kicking and screaming through all the subsequent decades, and their second full-length album “World Turned Upside Down” sees them do precisely that.
Instrumental opener “Jurapsyche Park” jump-cuts between manic surf guitar and the intricacies of Discipline-era King Crimson to end in a frenetic climax of duelling Hammond organ and abrasive guitar that recalls the live jam at end of Deep Purple’s “Space Trucking”…

EAC Rip | FLAC ((*tracks+.cue,scans)) | Run Time: 25:05:53 | 6,27 Gb | Scans - 174 Mb
Genre: Roots Reggae, Early Reggae, Jamaica Ska, Dub | Label: EMI Gold Imports

This whopping 30-CD box set gathers together the best of Trojan's three-disc box set series. Included are the Ska, DJ, Dub, Instrumentals, Jamaican Superstars, Lovers, Producer Series, Rocksteady, Roots, and Tribute to Bob Marley volumes, each of which can be found under Trojan Box Set for their individual reviews. What's lacking here is a booklet with additional notes and information; the bulk seems to demand some extra coverage and care, yet all that's here are the original notes of each volume – only as much text as can fit on the back of the CD sleeves. From a music standpoint, however, this box is excellent; a truly diverse and comprehensive collection. Of the 500 songs, less than ten reappear on another volume, so you get a more-than-satisfying amount of music spanning the history of the Trojan label.

By the late Seventies, increasing numbers of Jamaican performers were turning their hand to studio production work, and of these few made the transition more effectively than Linval Thompson.Having already made his mark as one of the island’s premier roots performers, the singer-songwriter launched his Thompson Sound label in 1977, finding immediate success with a series of best-selling recordings, all produced at Kingston’s revered Channel One studio, where he enlisted the services of celebrated in-house band, the Revolutionaries.Among the first artistes to benefit from Thompson's talents as a producer were leading dee-jays, Big Joe and Trinity, whose work spawned two popular long-players, 'African Princess' and 'Rock In The Ghetto'.Released by Trojan Records in 1978 and 1979, respectively, both of these lauded collections finally see their official reissue with this 2CD set, which also includes Thompson’s own best-selling album, 'I Love Marijuana', and ten bonus tracks, first issued by the famed London-based reggae company on its Attack subsidiary.

As the 1960s drew to a close, a new, exciting sound emerged in Jamaica that would swiftly take the music world by storm: reggae. During this formative period, the music was marked by its rapid tempo, which by the dawn of the Seventies had been superseded by the more relaxed style that today is more readily associated with the genre. In recent years, the early, energetic form of reggae has been branded ‘boss’ or ‘skinhead’ reggae – the latter reflecting its association with the UK’s youth sub-culture that championed the style.
