Roger Troy - Roger Troy (1976) Remastered Reissue 2016 Music

This is the lone solo album by sideman Roger "Jellyroll" Troy, a consummate session player who was best known for his collaborations with blues bandleader Michael Bloomfield, including as part of a reunited mid-'70s version of Electric Flag. Troy's bona fides go back even further than that: while still a teen, he was the bassist in the novelty rock band, the Hollywood Argyles, and went on to gigs with James Brown and Freddie King. In 1969 he cut an album as the leader of the band Jellyroll (which was his nickname) and he had considerable success as a songwriter in the early '70s. This album is pretty much pure white soul, with a heavy Muscle Shoals feel: four songs were written by Troy, though tellingly he also covers Dan Penn, whose emotive vocals style is echoed in Troy's own phrasing. Among the many musicians backing him are jazz saxophonist Ernie Watts and pianist/producer Mike Lipskin… Fans of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Joe Cocker and any number of eclectic Memphis roots/soul bands might want to check this one out.

This career-spanning anthology takes US from her debut single, released as Doris Payne in 1960, through to a super Bobby Bland-style duet with James Hunter recorded in 1996. The collection kicks off with 1965's 'I'll Do Anything (He Wants Me to Do)', her much-loved Northern Soul anthem, and concludes with a track from the London run of Mama I Want to Sing, the award-winning stage show based on Doris' life. Doris' classic Atlantic period is represented by her classic hit singles 'Just One Look' and 'What'cha Gonna Do About It', plus a further eight titles, including two album cuts and 'But I Love Him', a rare B-side released only in the UK.

In the Fade is the new film by German director Fatih Akın (Soul Kitchen) with Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds). Katja’s life falls apart when her husband and son die in a bomb attack. After mourning and injustice, the time for revenge will come. The title of the film was inspired by the song In The Fade by Queens of the Stone Age (included in the album Rated R). Director Fatih Akın said, "When I was writing the film, I listened to the Queens of the Stone Age a lot. Their music has something fatalist that fits well with the world of film. I had in mind several of their titles that I wanted to put in the film, and the music supervisor then suggested that I ask them to compose the original music.
