A look at the rise, fall and reinvention of the Godfather of Electro, after rising to fame with Are Friends Electric? In 1979 with Tubeway Army, Gary Numan saw major success, and a serious career slump, before he was rediscovered by a new generation of electro fans. Examining the rise, fall and reinvention of the ‘Godfather of Electro’, this documentary tackles the question that badgers many Numan fans: was his success despite his undiagnosed condition of Aspergers or because of it? It also reveals how he accidentally discovered his unique musical style and his love of display flying, as well as and how he deals with his loyal, but often hypercritical, fans.

From 1980–86, Ultravox released seven top 10 albums, including a live album and a "greatest hits" compilation and featured in Live Aid in Wembley Stadium on 13 July 1985. During the last days of the band, there were tensions between Currie and Ure. With an underwhelming response to their 1986 album U-Vox, the band effectively disintegrated. In 1988, Currie put out an instrumental solo album Transportation, released on the IRS NoSpeak record label. Steve Howe played guitar on some of the tracks.

Turbulence is the third album released by Steve Howe. Since 1979, Howe hadn't recorded a solo album, but from this one onward, he'd record them almost annually. Howe's band includes Yes's former drummer Bill Bruford and Billy Currie, ex-keyboardist from Ultravox. The album has guitar-based instrumentals, showing different genres that influence Howe.

Documentary following a generation of post-punk musicians who took the synthesiser from the experimental fringes to the centre of the pop stage. In the late 1970s, small pockets of electronic artists including the Human League, Daniel Miller and Cabaret Volatire were inspired by Kraftwerk and JG Ballard and dreamt of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain. The crossover moment came in 1979 when Gary Numan's appearance on Top of the Pops with Tubeway Army's Are Friends Electric heralded the arrival of synthpop. Four lads from Basildon known as Depeche Mode would come to own the new sound whilst post-punk bands like Ultravox, Soft Cell, OMD and Yazoo took the synth out of the pages of the NME and onto the front page of Smash Hits. By 1983, acts like Pet Shop Boys and New Order were showing that the future of electronic music would lie in dance music. Contributors include Philip Oakey, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner, Gary Numan and Neil Tennant.

In a career of myriad highlights 'Nightclubbing' remains the high water mark of Grace Jones's imperial years with Island Records. It is indisputably the album on which her musical legacy rests, and rightly considered one of the greatest albums of all time. A sophisticated melee of sound, blending post-punk cool with a hot Caribbean vibe and a catwalk Studio 54 sensibility, it's a perfect example of artist and musicians working in complete accord. It contains the all-time Grace classics in 'Pull Up To The Bumper', 'Walking In The Rain', 'Demolition Man' (written by Sting) and of course the Bowie / Iggy Pop-penned title track. There is magic in its every groove.

Greatest Ever Alternative 80s presents 3CDs of classic music from the decade when it became OK - even preferable - to be different. From alternative artists like the Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure and Bauhaus to chart-topping art-pop acts like Erasure, when MTV was king and anything was possible. Indulge your inner indie kid, electro kid, grunge kid and even goth kid with this essential 3CD compilation. "Michael Caine" is a song by British band Madness, released on 30 January 1984 as the first single from their album Keep Moving. On its creation, Julianne Regan has said, in an interview on BBC radio, "This song happened by accident when we were recording the first album. "Sign of the Times" is a song by English pop/new wave band The Belle Stars, released as the lead single from the band's only self-titled studio album.

Action Time Vision opens with the Damned’s “New Rose,” which Cherry Red declares “the first British punk 45” and which hasn’t lost a shred of its power. Things proceed more or less chronologically from there, with a healthy dose of sides from trailblazing labels like Stiff, Chiswick, Small Wonder and Step Forward. That latter label was founded by Miles Copeland, brother of Police drummer Stewart Copeland and a man who deserves more credit for cobbling together a US club circuit for “alternative” touring bands (British and American) that exists to this day.

The 21st studio long-player from the British electronic music legend, Savage (Songs from a Broken World) is the follow-up to 2013's acclaimed Splinter (Songs from a Broken Mind), which saw Numan delivering his highest-charting album since 1983's Warriors. A willfully dark, narrative-driven concept album concerning the melding of Eastern and Western cultures in a post-apocalyptic world that's been decimated by the effects of climate change, Savage is awash in ambient horrorscapes, blast-furnace percussion, and electro-goth synth leads that suggest Depeche Mode by way of Nine Inch Nails. Numan made the shift from new wave robot bard to industrial soothsayer in the 2000s or so ago – his adenoidal voice is as captivating as ever – so longtime fans aren't expecting the next Tubeway Army or Pleasure Principle…
