MTBs homemade blend of rock, country and jazz featured the band’s acclaimed songwriter and guitarist, Toy Caldwell. The band found enormous success during the 1970s, with most of their albums going gold. This album features the original lineup with the exception of Tommy Caldwell, who died the year before performing the best material from their classic period. Its an essential release!

“Let’s show the people coast to coast that we here in New Orleans can party! Are you ready to roll ’78 and light up 79?!” These were the words from the buzzing (and probably buzzed) emcee as he introduced the Marshall Tucker band in 1978 at The Warehouse – New Orleans' legendary music hall. The New Year's Eve audience was reported ti be the largest radio audience to hear a broadcast at the time, and the band elevated themselves to the occasion. This rousing legacy recording is sourced from the original 24-track tapes and was mixed in Macon, Georgia in 2019 by Paul Hornsby, the original Capricorn Records producer who recorded and produced their first six gold and platinum albums.

Taking a page from their Capricorn Records labelmates and Southern rock contemporaries the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band issued a self-titled debut blending the long and winding psychedelic and jam band scene with an equally languid and otherwise laid-back country-rock flavor. Into the mix they also added a comparatively sophisticated jazz element – which is particularly prominent throughout their earliest efforts.

Shortly after Dedicated was released, the Marshall Tucker Band hunkered down and refined their sound yet again, undoubtedly influenced by drummer Paul Riddle and keyboardist Franklin Wilkie's side project, the jazz fusion group the Throbbers. Designed (surprisingly) with commercial radio in mind, Tuckerized is a polished and slick ten-song session that relies largely on songwriting efforts from outside of the group.

Perhaps the only reason that New Life isn't quite as memorable as its self-titled predecessor is that the band's debut was just so startling when it appeared. By the time New Life was issued in 1974, to the band's credit, it seemed like the Marshall Tucker Band sound had always been a part of America's rock & roll scene.

After the loss of his brother/bandmate Tommy Caldwell in a serious car accident and the loss of another brother shortly thereafter, guitarist Toy Caldwell and the surviving members of the Marshall Tucker Band found it in themselves to record another record in 1981. Under the production of Tom Dowd, Dedicated is a sleek, well-polished album not unlike their previous few endeavors.

On Long Hard Ride, The Marshall Tucker Band's country influences come to the fore, resulting in a strong record that failed to gain many hits. Still, the final product is well worth listening to – it's one of their better releases. Be sure to listen for Charlie Daniels' guest appearance.
