Navier-Stokes Turbulence: Theory and Analysis, Second Edition by Wolfgang Kollmann
English | EPUB (True) | 2024 | 876 Pages | ISBN : 3031595777 | 113.3 MB

This updated/augmented second edition retains it class-tested content and pedagogy as a core text for graduate courses in advanced fluid mechanics and applied science. The new edition adds revised sections, clarification, problems, and chapter extensions including a rewritten section on Schauder bases for turbulent pipe flow, coverage of Cantwell’s mixing length closure for turbulent pipe flow, and a section on the variational Hessian. Consisting of two parts, the first provides an introduction and general theory of fully developed turbulence, where treatment of turbulence is based on the linear functional equation derived by E. Hopf governing the characteristic functional that determines the statistical properties of a turbulent flow. In this section, Professor Kollmann explains how the theory is built on divergence free Schauder bases for the phase space of the turbulent flow and the space of argument vector fields for the characteristic functional. The second segment, presented over subsequent chapters, is devoted to mapping methods, homogeneous turbulence based upon the hypotheses of Kolmogorov and Onsager, intermittency, structural features of turbulent shear flows and their recognition.

Over the years, many leading European graduate schools in the field of astrophysical and space plasmas have operated within the framework of the research network, "Theory, Observations, and Simulations in Turbulence in Space Plasmas." This text is a set of lectures and tutorial reviews culled from the relevant work of all those schools. It emphasizes applications on solar coronae, solar flares, and the solar wind.

Hydrodynamic Instability and Transition to Turbulence by Akiva M. Yaglom
English | PDF | 2012 | 600 Pages | ISBN : 9400742363 | 110.8 MB

This book is a complete revision of the part of Monin & Yaglom's famous two-volume work "Statistical Fluid Mechanics: Mechanics of Turbulence" that deals with the theory of laminar-flow instability and transition to turbulence. It includes the considerable advances in the subject that have been made in the last 15 years or so. It is intended as a textbook for advanced graduate courses and as a reference for research students and professional research workers.

The first two Chapters are an introduction to the mathematics, and the experimental results, for the instability of laminar (or inviscid) flows to infinitesimal (in practice "small") disturbances. The third Chapter develops this linear theory in more detail and describes its application to particular problems. Chapters 4 and 5 deal with instability to finite-amplitude disturbances: much of the material has previously been available only in research papers.

The Mathematical Theory of Turbulence

The Mathematical Theory of Turbulence by M. M. Stanišić
English | PDF | 1985 | 444 Pages | ISBN : 0387961070 | 21.3 MB

"I do not think at all that I am able to present here any procedure of investiga tion that was not perceived long ago by aZl men of talent; and I do not promise at all that you can find here anything quite new of this kind. But I shall take pains to state in clear words the pules and ways of investigation which are followed by able men, who in most cases are not even conscious of follow ing them. Although I am free from illusion that I shall fully succeed even in doing this, I stiZl hope that the little that is present here may please some people and have some application afterwards. " Bernard Balzano (Wissenschaftslehre, 1929) The following book results from a series of lectures on the mathematical theory of turbulence delivered by the author at the Purdue University School of Aeronautics and Astronautics during the past several years, and represents, in fact, a comprehensive account of the author's work with his graduate students in this field. It was my aim in writing this book to give engineers and scientists a mathematical feeling for a subject, which because of its nonlinear character has resisted mathematical analysis for many years. On account viii of its refractory nature this subject was categorized as one of seven "elementary catastrophes". The material presented here is designed for a first graduate course in turbulence. The complete course has been taught in one semester.

Turbulence: Introduction to Theory and Applications of Turbulent Flows

Turbulence: Introduction to Theory and Applications of Turbulent Flows by Frans T.M. Nieuwstadt
English | EPUB | 2016 | 288 Pages | ISBN : 3319315978 | 6.16 MB

This book provides a general introduction to the topic of turbulent flows. Apart from classical topics in turbulence, attention is also paid to modern topics. After studying this work, the reader will have the basic knowledge to follow current topics on turbulence in scientific literature. The theory is illustrated with a number of examples of applications, such as closure models, numerical simulations and turbulent diffusion, and experimental findings. The work also contains a number of illustrative exercises.
