Buxtehude's preludes, chorales and toccatas on an incredible organ! "Experiencing Vibrations with Buxtehude" is organist Arnaud Van de Cauter's third album for the Paraty label. Dieterich Buxtehude (1637-1707), an important figure of the North German organ school and source of inspiration for J. S. Bach, unfolds a language rich in contrasts, affects and musical rhetoric in his preludes, chorales and toccatas. The monumental organ of St. Ludgeri's Church in Norden, a masterpiece by organ builder Arp Schnitger from 1688, provides an ideal setting for this music: its 46 stops, which are distributed over several sound levels, and its modified mesotonic temperament reveal all the color, polyphonic clarity and expressiveness of Buxtehude's composition.
