THE FIRST TIME…FOR THE LAST TIME is collection of demos a then-unknown Shania Twain recorded in the late 1980s and early 1990s for Canadian label Limelight Records. Written in collaboration with Los Angeles producer Paul Sabu, the songs here are not country music, but rather well-crafted, energetically performed pop/rock fare. Though the production is often dated (particularly on the cruise-ship-dance-party-sounding “For the Love of Him” and the Laura Branigan-esque “It’s Alright), the tracks definitely offer repeated glimpses of Twain’s superstar potential. There are even a few country-tinged numbers (“Bite My Lip,” “Luv Eyes”) that presage Twain and Mutt Lange’s multi-platinum Nashville/arena rock hybrids. Though recordings contained herein have been made available in several other forms, this package goes the extra mile by offering both the original recordings and significantly re-mixed/remastered versions on two different discs.

Shania Twain entered a self-imposed exile following the supporting tour for 2002's Up!, suffering from a then-undisclosed contraction of Lyme disease. Troubles compounded, as they often do. Twain split from her husband, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, in 2008, a traumatic event on its own that was complicated by the fact that he was her collaborator on the blockbusters The Woman in Me (1995), Come on Over (1997), and Up! This meant she had to start over personally and professionally, which explains the long delay between Up! and Now, which was released in September of 2017. Many trends have come and gone during that 15-year gap and Twain – assisted by not one producer but a roundtable, as is standard for 21st century blockbusters – decides to split the difference between chasing fashion and staying true to her glitzy country-pop.

Shania Twain's second record, The Woman in Me, became a blockbuster, appealing as much to a pop audience as it did to the country audience. Part of the reason for its success was how producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange best-known for his work with Def Leppard, the Cars, and AC/DC steered Twain toward the big choruses and instrumentation that always was a signature of his speciality, AOR radio. Come on Over, the sequel to The Woman in Me, continues that approach, breaking from contemporary country conventions in a number of ways. Not only does the music lean toward rock, but its 16 songs and, as the cover proudly claims, "Hour of Music," break from the country tradition of cheap, short albums of ten songs that last about a half-hour. Furthermore, all 16 songs and Lange-Twain originals and Shania's sleek, sexy photos suggest a New York fashion model, not a honky tonker.

Shania Twain comes full circle on this album, cowriting 11 out of 12 cuts and proving that she can do more than sing. Once again she crosses over into pop-rock territory with this multiplatinum affair, bringing legions of new fans into the country camp. Peppered with hits such as "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" and "Any Man of Mine," Twain's sophomore effort features crisp and clear vocals and country-flavored pop arrangements. Husband and cowriter "Mutt" Lange, known for his production work with hard hitters Def Leppard, has produced a fresh sound for country, enhancing the traditional with a more gritty, gutsy sound; even the more delicate tunes resemble those power-pop tunes from the 1980s. This is music for all occasions: danceable, romantic, and powerful.

Come On Over is the third studio album recorded by Canadian country singer Shania Twain. It was released on November 4, 1997. It became the best-selling country music album, and the best-selling studio album by a female act. It is the 6th best-selling album in the United States. The International version was remixed for a more pop and world feel. The only song that stayed the same on both versions was "Rock This Country!". Some issues of this album adhere to the original track-listing and feature Bryan White on "From This Moment On", while others feature the track as a solo recording.
