There is strong demand for current, accurate, and objective information about Islamic societies and Muslims around the world. This is the first survey for a general audience of key current topics in 16 countries with significant Muslim populations.

This book attempts to present a number of ideas regarding a few selected small-scale energy harvesting methods and techniques as well as theories and products that may be helpful in improving the quality of life. Some of the new products are still in the prototype stage, while others are already being utilized. Many researchers in small-scale energy harvesting and those aspiring to follow this path of research will find this book not only motivating but also a useful guide in their endeavors.

I dabbled in careers as diverse as Christmas tree salesman, ski bum, PR flak and New York City bike messenger before moving to Ukraine and settling into a career as an editor and writer. I was editor-in-chief of the Kyiv Post, an English-language weekly, from 1999 to 2003 then moved briefly back to Washington, DC, before following my future wife to Manila for 4 years. In 2008 we moved to our current home, Phnom Penh. I divide my work time between travel writing and editing technical reports for international organizations.
