Vivaldi

A follow up to their album Vivaldi X2, this new offering from baroque specialists Las Serenissima combines further double concerti by Antonio Vivaldi with works for violin, cello, oboe, recorder and continuo. The previous album received rave reviews including Recording of the Month from BBC Music Magazine. These are some of Vivaldi’s most colourful and joyful works, and with director Adrian Chandler at the helm listeners can look forward to further baroque excellence from this dynamic ensemble.

Re-released on Capriccio this month is a disc of Italian Concertos performed by the Concerto Köln. Alongside masterpieces by Vivaldi and Pergolesi, this 2 CD set contains some rarities of Neapolitan composers such as Francesco Durante and Leonardo Leo.

With 39 concertos for one bassoon this part of his oeuvre is the second largest of his instrumental output, after the concertos for violin. Sophie Dervaux' new album "Vivaldi Bassoon Concertos" is part of her larger project to record all of 39 of Vivaldis bassoon concerts. This album presents the first 6 concertos of this journey; RV 474, RV 497, RV 481, RV 501, RV 484 and RV 473. Apart from the violin, Vivaldi wrote as many concertos for no other instrument than the bassoon, knowing expertly how to write for this instrument to highlight its unique qualities.
