Rejeté à ses débuts par les institutions classiques, le courant minimaliste a vu son influence grandir au cours des années 1970 et 1980, popularisé entre autres par le succès rencontré par certaines musiques de film de Philip Glass. Peu à peu, le minimalisme fait des émules, à l’image de John Adams, l’un de ses plus illustres représentants, mais aussi en dehors du continent américain. Des compositeurs européens tels que Michael Nyman, John Tavener, Arvo Pärt ou Henryk Górecki entretiennent des liens avec ce courant. Si les minimalistes ont trouvé un écho auprès d’audiences plus larges que celles de la seule musique classique, leur travail a souvent subi la critique de certains commentateurs qui ont jugé simpliste ou superficielle leur proposition musicale. Un malentendu que Vanessa Wagner et Wilhem Latchoumia se font un devoir de dissiper.

Siegfried Wagner had the best musical pedigree that a composer could conceivably have: the son of Richard Wagner and the grandson of Franz Liszt (through Liszt's daughter Cosima). His ancestry proved to be a decidedly mixed blessing, however, as the younger Wagner – despite working in a different musical era – was never fully able to step outside of the long shadow cast by his father, even as he engendered the jealousy of musical rivals. (…) Following Siegfried Wagner's death, the family did its best to suppress performances of his music, casting its lot with the more popular and profitable works of Richard Wagner, and it was only with lapsing of various copyrights, and the formation of the Siegfried Wagner Society in 1972, that his music was made available again, first in concert editions and more recently in full performances.

Florence Delaage performs the art of transcriptions and paraphrases written by Hans de Bülow and Liszt based upon well-known moments of Wagner's operas. This former pupil of Alfred Cortot and György Cziffra has recently received the medal of honour given by the Sociétés Richard Wagner as well as a Legion of Honour. There are a few pages to discover in this Melism's first album, such as Hans von Bülow's paraphrase on the quintet of the Meistersinger von Nürnberg or brief pages of Wagner himself, especially the Notenbrief für Mathilde Wesendonck.
